Interview with Dixit Production Studio
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have personally been in this business for more than 15 years. I have composed cinema music with Guillermo Guereschi and Tomas Murmis and after that with Ariel Rimoldi. More recently we have multi-platinum global productions and an Emmy award in our records. We figure this will only keep on rising and an opportunity to improve our level of expertise and excellence.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am proud of every piece of work I do because I can contemplate constant growth. I'd say one of my favorite's Michelle Simonal - Behind Blue Eyes which combines a classic song with more refined jazz, pop, and chill-out. Also very proud of participating in the production of Bossa n’Stones which is a multiplatinum that sold more than 8 million albums and Vintage Café, which is another multiplatinum project we have worked on.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: We are currently producing Sarah Menescal's work, a Brazilian artist who has been listened to 100 million times. Also working on production with Lila Frascara. We’ve been working mainly with PMB Music Brokers for 3 years now.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I can only promise my clients they will receive a quality product made professionally which will be usable internationally.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Mostly that you get the chance to work with artists from all over the world and create the art of music and that can make people get out of their bubbles. I also love to see a happy client after going through al the creative process. I can only promise from a place of experience in all these years of selling songs that have been played thousands of time, that I can guarantee a competitive product with what we take.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most commonly would ask how their voice should be treated, if they should sound more or less natural, if they should comply with tendencies. But the answer is usually the same: We study it, we evaluate it and of course, we perform it.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: To choose among the options that improve the quality of sound and open the window to new possibilities. I would also advise clients to be open the producers’ proposals so that they can enrich each other and there’s a balance that shows in the final process.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It is essential to find the right vocal tone where the singer can really shine, not just thinking inside the track and its details, but also the singer's vocal strengths, achieving a more adequate sound for the product, and at the same time providing comfort to the singer’s voice, therefore acquiring the best of both parts.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: We could say that from the set of skills we have, creativity and hard work are our strongest. We always achieve an efficient, great and quick result.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Our studio creates a mixture of digital and analogic sound. We use FL Studio and Cubase Dynamics in the digital edition. We also have Mics such as Bluebird, Shure 57 which is a classic dynamic model, and others, which allows us to achieve the best sound possible.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Composition and musical production, also coaching for artists, instrumental recordings (guitar, keyboards, drums, bass, and others). Besides, to wrap up a full production, we work on tuning, warping, mixing, and mastering. Our greatest strength could be in the mixing area, instruments, and voice. We always achieve a natural and smooth sound.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Madonna because she tends to innovate constantly. Also, Lana del Rey or Billie Eilish since they explore the different varieties of nostalgic sounds. I would also love to work with the likes of Justin Timberlake or Adele since they are amazing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Innovative spirit. We make the song distinctive and memorable. We usually mix classic with modern elements to make a creative fusion.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Our style could be a generic fusion between modern and classics.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: We start in search of the right tone with a MIDI model for the lead singer. Once the main voice is recorded we proceed to add the instruments and the final process starts. Then we usually perform up to 4 corrections with the client until the last mastered file is delivered.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Some producers that have inspired us are George Martin, Mark Ronson, Mike Stone, Quincey Jones, Pharrel Williams, amongst many others. Our strongest inspiration among music production groups is PMB Music and Music Brokers since we feel they are relatable in the chill-out music and lounge music gender.
