I’ve been working for this man for years, literally from the beginning. This guy started from the bottom, but I quickly saw him grow to professionalism due to his sheer work ethic and dedication. He loves what he does and is goes the extra mile to be a helping hand to local artists. He loves our local music scene and keeps a positive attitude at all times. You can only benefit by working with this guy.
Interview with Kevin "toomellowed" Elescano
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I've had the opportunity to work on both. In these current times, there so many products and gear that brings its own sound despite the attempts to copy original analog gear. I try not to invest too much in seeing what plugin is close enough and just appreciate what it can bring me in a mix or master.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I would have to say the results and good energy that comes forward. It's amazing to see it all come together and the artist hyped energy following after. Things can be stressful for sure, but those results are reminders to why you spent the time to begin with.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listening. ALOT of listening. I try my best not to be too surgical with my processing. I really just want to do exactly what the client wants. If I get a request for a dominant 808 or the lead verses to be more of a "shoegazing" style then lets do it. There's always a way to cut through and stand out across streaming platforms.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's always a good practice to understand how to properly record. I understand there are many techniques with new ones to come, but there are important levels to have when creating or understanding these techniques such as gain staging and microphone placement. It has definitely been a privilege to attend the Omega Studios' School of Applied Recording Arts and Sciences, but YouTube can go a long way. Wayne.wav, Help Me Devvon, and Streaky are a few youtubers I personally have gained knowledge from.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I enjoy making contributions to the artist's creative power through transparency mixing and colorful mastering. The foundation usually comes from allowing time to understand the song through studies of my own and information from the artists. If the artist makes it to be up to me, I as well enjoy getting creative on those terms. In the end, I just want the artist's vision to come full circle. In a good way obviously..
