Interview with Flying Aya
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm working with a few Ugandan dancehall and afro pop artists.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: if analogue was an option for me I would happily use outboard gear to mix and master.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Money back guarantee
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Love enhancing sound and love positive feedback from producers and artists
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can I see you master!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I usually recommend to remove compressors (especially if they are pre-sets and you are unsure what they are doing). Check the balance of your pre-mastered track and make sure your file is no louder than - 6 db. Make sure you add fades to isolated drum hits (to avoid glitches) and fade out effects to avoid prolonged reverb
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: more than 10 years
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Avoid compressors and limit using effects unless you know what you are doing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: dance hall, hiphop, afrobeat, reggae, pop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: listening - mixing and mastering
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: To master your track I will balance the stereo mix, make all the elements sound cohesive to reach commercial loudness by equalisation, compression, saturation, stereo enhancement, and limiting.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Protools, Genlecs + Waves, Izotope
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: dance hall, hiphop, afrobeat, reggae, pop
