Hi, my name is Jamahl Augustine and I am a bass guitarist/synth bassist from the UK. I have many years of live and recording experience with playing bass, and I am confident that I can provide you with top quality recordings to complete your tracks, whichever popular genre this may be. You can choose to have the track recorded with a choice between my multiple choices of equipment. whether this be a Jazz bass (Active/Passive), a Precision Bass (Passive) or synth bass (Moog SUB37). I am more than happy to discuss any uses of gear with you so you can get the top quality recordings you deserve.

EASY TO WORK WITH! GREAT COMMUNICATION!

Interview with Jamahl Augustine

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Arthur Stanley is a great producer from here in the U.K. He can cover many styles and incredibly talented musically also, one of the best guitarists in the country

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I recently recorded a few tracks on an album for Ashley Allen (yet to be released), I'm proud of this one because I'm working with a lot of musicians that I'd been inspired to work with for a long time and i'd spent long hours of practice trying to get to their level. Also Ashley is a fantastic influence for the Birmingham music scene, so I'm proud to be a part of that

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Im working on 2 singles for a friend who's putting out music for the first time, and a drummer's EP which he may put out as dreamless tracks, in a neo-soul style

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: The impossible question haha, instruments I'd have to say analog, like synths etc. but recording and mixing I'd have to say digital

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise that I will do the best I can to make sure that I provide you with the best service and high quality recordings, to make sure that you are happy with your tracks

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I like the thrill of listening to new tracks for the first time, and the feeling of accomplishment knowing that you've done a good job and are going to have a satisfied client.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: A lot of people tend to think I just sit at home and pay along to songs all day, and that music isn't a real job, I continue to prove them wrong :)

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I tend to ask if there is any particular kind of feel that they want me to lay down on the track, and if they have anything in reference to it, I always want to get the feel right for a track.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Don't be afraid to ask questions about the service. I'm here to make sure you get what you need for your tracks, and I want to make every penny count for you!

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I've always wanted to work with Kendrick Lamar ever since I first heard his music. I love how he brings in the influences of so many different musical styles, aswell as his poetic influences. Plus his live arrangements are killer!

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Always try and do more with less

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: I'd say that my strongest skill is my feel with my playing, it's something I work very hard on.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I always hope to bring a live energetic feel to a song, for whichever type of track I may be recording. For me, feel is the thing that should come first with recording rather than thinking where I can put in a crazy run/lick.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: With every track I get, I always listen through the demo/stems first before playing, whilst thinking of any ideas that my client may have for my part on the track. I always put in the tempo information as this helps me with the next step of marking out each section of the track. This makes it easier for me to record different sections and communicate with my client with any queries I or they may have.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: At the moment I have a Mac Pro tower with a 24 inch display, plenty powerful for most recording needs. I always plug my bass into my Aguilar pre-amp D.I. pedal before going into the interface to get a richer tone for recordings, this goes for synth bass recordings swell. My setup is fairly small at this current time but very resourceful.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: Musician wise, I am heavily inspired by the likes of Isaiah Sharkey, Robert Gueringer, Jae Deal, Adam Blackstone, Hayley Williams (and Paramore), YUNGBLUD, Khalid, Anderson Pack...just to name a few My favourite music producer has to be Zedd!

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: For clients, I mainly record music of an R&B, Hip-Hop, Funk background, with the occasional Latin or rock recordings, all music which I am very familiar with
