Is David Frank one of the most talented songwriters and vocalist of all time?

    Maybe

Will David Frank make your song 10000000000000000x better than it already was?

    Absolutely

Critics say he's one of the best to do it

Random magazine one time said he wrote a song with just a cowbell

He has an award given to him by a Dove because thats how lovely and poetic his words are

    This guy gets it.

I once saw David Frank fight a fully grown Grizzly Bear while blindfolded with one hand tied behind his back. The bear charged him, and all David had to do was sing the chorus of one of his beautiful songs in the bear's direction. The bear immediately fell to the ground weeping in sheer astonishment of the beauty of David's songwriting and vocal abilities.

Okay, but really . . . I work with David all the time. He is an amazing songwriter, and has one of the most powerful voices you'll hear. Think Coldplay meets Imagine Dragons. He also has an amazing attitude and is a pleasure to work with.

David is what I call a "timeless" artist. Not only does he have what I believe to be one of the best voices that we have in music right now but he has such an attention to story in his music that it isn't easily forgotten and THAT is what I believe makes a great artist.

Interview with David Frank

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked on a song called War cry that was Cut by Social Club Misfits, that won me a dove Award. But also same song but with my vocals, has continued to be placed every year in TV, was used as American Ninja Warriors theme. Also my first big DJ cut with Kygo. got me my first plaque as Billboards #1 Dance Album in 2018

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on recording an album for my band project. And some singles / DJ collabs for my solo project. I have songs in kygo camp and one coming with tritonal , another hopefully with Don Diablo. Just finished working with Donny Osmond on his recent album.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: JT Roach and Petey Martin. JT and I have been friends for years and have written many songs together. We’ve won a dove award together, and have written other songs with millions of streams. Petey Martin, one of my favorite people/producers. We wrote a kygo hit together. And many other great songs.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Ahhh both , for me it’s digital . I’ve worked with a lot of analog gear, there’s no beating the warmth of good gear. However, technology is so good these days.. you can get pretty close. Once I can, I will definitely be investing in more analog gear.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That i will leave you with a song you love more then you entered with.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Besides making music i love everyday, I LOVE the social part of this job. Meeting new interesting talented peoples makes my day .. and new friends!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: About my digital vocal chain, how I set it up/ and if it changes with different singers. I’ll usually tell them the basics of my vocal chain like plug-in name ( but not actually settings) and it does change with different singers.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That people think the songs I wrote happened quickly. Sometimes it can take 20 mins or less… other times it can take a few weeks evens months. Good songs happen, and sometimes you really have to dig in to find it.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What it is they are trying to achieve/ convey in their song? How close are they to a concep? , and how they like to have their vocals treated.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: To treat everyone you work with the upmost respect. You have no idea who you’ll be working with later and people in the industry talk. Respect everyone even if they’ve upset you.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My takamine, Manley mic, computer, generator with solar panel, and lastly, and Korg sampler

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been into music my whole life. I been working in the music industry full time for the past 9 years; right out of college.. I got signed to Burnett Music in 2014, and then UMPG in 2016. My first professional gig was a song I wrote with my band Little Dume that NBC used as the theme for hit series A.D. Since then my publishers have provided me with amazing opportunities including multiple #1s and tens of millions of streams; along with many television and film placements.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Upbeat, I work very fast in the session. Ideas usually come to be quick and try to capture them ASAP, but also take the time to perfect parts. Im trying to emulate Ryan Tedder work flow in my own way.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with Coldplay. They have inspired me to be the best version of my self and write the best songs. Chris said it starts with the song.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Capture record change my whole vibe. You can capture midi in logic with out actually recording. It takes the edge off/ and the pressure of the daring redline

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Alt rock/ folk or pop/dj top lines

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Vocalist/writing

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring life and authentic stories to my own songs. On songs I’ve written I always trying to bring songwriting excellence to tell a captivating story. When I’m producing, I always create my own sounds.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I’m singer/songwriter first. I always start with the song and build from their. Depending on the session/artist I’m working with, I usually start with trying to capture a great concept with scratch melodies and then build out a production.
