Interview with Eden Bahar

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m incredibly proud of was when I was 17, performing as the drummer in a spectacular show at the Caesarea Amphitheater in Israel. I had the incredible opportunity to play alongside renowned artists like David D'or, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Gipsy Kings. My father accompanied us on the piano to make it even more special. This experience was a highlight of my musical journey and a profound moment of connection with my family and fellow musicians. Performing in such a historic venue, surrounded by world-class talent, taught me the importance of collaboration and the power of music to bring people together. It ignited my passion for performing and solidified my desire to pursue a music career.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At the moment, I’m working on a few exciting projects, including launching my book "Unbeatable" on Amazon and touring the world with Cirque du Soleil. I'm also learning new things, reading a lot, refining my drumming techniques, and exploring new styles to continue growing as a musician. Additionally, I’m always looking for opportunities to connect with other creatives and expand my network within the music community. Each project is a chance to learn and bring fresh energy to my work.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I appreciate both analog and digital, as each has its unique strengths. Analog gear offers a warmth and character that can be hard to replicate, often bringing a richness to recordings that many musicians love. On the other hand, digital technology provides incredible precision, flexibility, and convenience, making it easier to edit and produce high-quality tracks quickly. Ultimately, I choose based on the project and the desired sound. For certain styles, I might lean towards analog for its warmth, while for others, the efficiency and versatility of digital can be more beneficial. The key is to harness the strengths of both to create the best musical experience.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise to my clients is to deliver high-quality drum tracks that elevate their music while ensuring a collaborative and enjoyable experience. I commit to understanding their vision and adapting my drumming style to their unique sound. I will communicate openly throughout the process, provide timely feedback, and be receptive to revisions, ensuring that the final product aligns perfectly with their expectations. I aim to meet their needs and leave my "fingerprint," making their musical project exceptional.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: What I like most about my job is the opportunity to connect with different artists and help bring their musical visions to life. Each project is unique, and I love the creative process of collaborating with others. The joy of making music and seeing how it resonates with listeners is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, traveling and performing in diverse settings allows me to continually grow as a musician and experience the universal language of music.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Customers often ask a few key questions: What genres do you specialize in? I specialize in various genres, including rock, pop, funk, and electronic music. My diverse experience allows me to adapt to different styles and bring a unique touch to each project. How do you approach a new project? I start by understanding your vision for the song. I listen to any reference tracks you provide and discuss the specific vibe you want for the drums. From there, I record multiple takes to capture the best feel. What is your turnaround time? Typically, I aim to deliver the initial tracks within a week, depending on the project’s complexity. I always strive to meet deadlines and can accommodate faster turnarounds if needed. Do you offer revisions? Absolutely! I encourage feedback and am happy to make adjustments to ensure the final result aligns perfectly with your vision. Can you record remotely? Yes, I have a fully equipped home studio where I can record high-quality drum tracks remotely and send them to you efficiently. These questions help set clear expectations and ensure a smooth collaboration.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: The biggest misconception about what I do is that drumming is just about keeping time. While timing is essential, it’s also about creating mood, energy, and dynamics within a song. Many people overlook the artistry involved in drumming—how different rhythms can evoke various emotions and enhance the overall musical experience. It’s not just about hitting the drums; it's about interpreting the music and contributing to its narrative.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: When working with prospective clients, I typically ask: What is your vision for the song? Understanding their artistic intent helps me align my drumming with their goals. What style or genre are you aiming for? This gives me insight into the specific sounds and rhythms that suit the project. Are there any reference tracks you love? Hearing examples can clarify the feel and vibe they're looking for. What is your timeline for the project? Knowing deadlines helps me plan and deliver on time. How do you prefer to communicate during the process? Establishing clear lines of communication ensures we stay connected and can easily make adjustments. These questions help create a solid foundation for collaboration and ensure that I deliver the best possible results for their music.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: I advise customers looking to hire a provider like me to communicate their vision and expectations. Share any references or examples of the sound you’re aiming for, as this helps me tailor my drumming to fit your needs. Be open to collaboration and feedback; the best results often come from a creative exchange. Lastly, trust the process—every project is unique, and together, we can create something truly special that elevates your music.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: 1. Drums 2. Satellite phone 3. Coconut water 4. Running shoes 5. Ping-Pong table

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: My career path began at a young age, fueled by the love of music instilled in me by my parents. I started playing drums early on and dedicated myself to mastering the instrument. Over the years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to play with over 100 bands worldwide in more than 35 countries and counting. After a near-death experience during my service in the IDF Orchestra, I developed a renewed desire for life and a deeper appreciation for music as a healing power. Each performance reminds me of that passion and resilience, and I look forward to continuing this journey.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: My style is a fusion of rock, funk, jazz, and classical music. I draw from the energy and improvisation of rock and funk, the complexity and nuance of jazz, and the structured dynamics of classical music. This blend allows me to adapt to various genres and bring a unique rhythmic sensibility to every project. I aim to create a captivating and memorable musical experience, whether playing high-energy grooves or intricate, delicate passages.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I’d love to work with Lenny Kravitz. His music authentically blends rock, soul, and funk, and his drumming always plays a crucial role in driving the energy of his songs. I admire his raw, timeless sound and how he stays true to classic influences while still innovating. My drumming style, which focuses on groove and power, would align perfectly with the energy and spirit of his music. Collaborating with him would be an incredible opportunity to fuse those elements.

  36. A: My work process starts with understanding the client’s vision. I listen to their track, review notes or references, and discuss the vibe they want for the drums. Once aligned, I’ll record multiple takes to capture different feels, giving them options. Afterward, I clean up the audio and, if needed, add any processing or effects. I’m always open to feedback and revisions to ensure the final result is precisely what the client wants.
