Interview with Roducer
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm proud of the work that I've done with Acid Fader - "1998" album. This was a production created during my last semester of college. This was my thesis, working with the music, the digital art, music videos, release and the production of a live event to release the album. It was just perfect.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently working as a producer of +10 different projects of different genres. Mainly Emo, Goth, Post punk, Pop Rock and EDM.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, Edgar Leal.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog, it just sounds and feels better.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: The result will be something that you will enjoy.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating and having the opportunity to express myself and the ideas of the clients through music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What is pre production? A: The process in which we create the production of your music in a raw format. How do you know what to add to my music? A: Listening to your reference tracks or artists I can identify some characteristics on music that might fit yours.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I'm creating everything and mixing mistakes of artists. The reality is that as a producer I'm working the creation with the client and helping them to become better everyday in what they do.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your main goal with music? What are your influences? What are your reference tracks or artists for the music that you are creating? When do you need this ready? How big is your commitment to your music?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have a conversation of what both of the parts will be working on and what will be the final delivery or result. Always be clear with that.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Macbook, Neumann mic, Interface, Acoustic Guitar and headphones.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been working as a producer for more that 10 years. I began working in a home studio at the age of 15, with no payment just to learn tips and stuff. Then I decided to study a B.S. in Music Production Engineering. In the meantime I opened up my own studio, which has been around since 2016, working with clients of so many different styles and genres.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Deep, dark and feeling oriented.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Placebo, can't tell why, I just feel a deep connection to their music.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If the song is good, how it is mixed or mastered won't matter at all.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Solo artist music, mainly goth, sad, depressive and emo related stuff.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Music composition and arrangement, definitely.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Conversation between instruments.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: 1. Send me your ideas, reference tracks and influences. 2. I will create a beat or structured musical track. 3. You listen and tell me what's ok and what's not, in order to make fixes and start working the lyrics and vocal melody. 4. Now that we're set with the music and lyrics, recording is made. 5. Mix 6. Mastering
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a boutique studio with digital console, SSL interface, mics, guitars, bass, drums, synth and any instrument that might be needed to the creation of music. My studio is designed to the creation of music and it has also an acoustic design to work mixing and mastering.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by Rick Rubin, since he's been working with artists from any genre and always creating hits.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm usually producing the music and giving support to the writing process of the Lyrics. I will listen to some references that might fit the idea that you want for your musical project and then I will create music that matches those references.
