Interview with Lei Barreto

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: If i work for free only making beats. My answer is that music isnt a "thing", you need to study a lot, have the necessary equipment and that takes time, knowledge, and investment. Its not for free, its a work as any other.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: My role was to make and instrumental hip hop beat for a client that wanted me to make the production and rap on it. That was the first time i rapped and i did it so well that he paid me more money than we agreed at that time!

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Im working in my own R&B album, producing the songs and singing.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: EDP beats!

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: it depends the situation, digital softwares every day are getting more professional and every time its difficult to hear a difference, more in the way we listen to music in smartphones speakers. So if i have to travel all time, and do a lot of work at the same time, i would choose digital.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: That the work will be done and high quality. also i promise to give them all the revisions needed.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: That i am working in things i love and i enjoy the process.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That its not as serious as other works. And thats a huge misconception of music. Music is present everywhere. In radio, in movies, parties, events, even in hospitals, administrative offices. The world wouldnt be the same if you couldnt listen to music in your holidays, in your way back home from work.... And i could go on and on...

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: If they could give me every detail of what they need, the feeling they have about the project they have in mind.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: That he/she should check my other works before hiring me, to know how i sound i how is my workflow.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Mi notebook with the DAW, my soundboard, my microphone, my headphones and a mini midi.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been in music overall since 2017. But i never take a break since then because i want this for life.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is very energic and always in good mood. First i create, then i take care by the technical part.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with Charlie Puth beacause he is a great singer, he has the ability to know the pitch or the note you are singing, and also because he produced his own songs. I think it's super important to be involved in all parts of the project.
