Interview with Daniele Zanotti

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: John Mayer because it is a continuous inspiration in the music that I produce and mix

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: 1) After some specific questions I can figure out what kind of sound my clients wish. 2) In-depth analysis of reference tracks in order to transform the acquired knowledge into creativity. 3) I can deliver on my scheduling commitments, which sadly you don't always find in this industry.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: Especially in mixing. I speak with the client to have a reference to start from. I don't like to focus on individual sounds for a long time. My approach is to listen to the song several times in its entirety. Focus on the crucial parts of the song, to understand what are the instruments that characterize it most. I often start from the pre chorus trying to bring the chorus in its maximum explosion and fullness. Before any equalization and compression (if necessary), I try to make the song play by creating a general balance of all the instruments; from there on where I need to intervene. I consider the mix an important part of a song's creative process. The mix must make it sound good and respect the production made, giving it as much value as possible.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I have a simple but personalized system. As an AD / DA converter I have an Apollo 16 UAD. Like Pre Amp the 8p and 8 other pre-castomized together with Ribera Audio. together we researched the sound of the Neve pre and other high-end pre. As microphones that I often use for vocals and guitars I have a Ribera R251, then various sm57, sennehiser 421. Aston Spirit etc. like Outbord a custom analog adder built from the sections of a 70's AMEK.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: JOHN MAYER. I love his way of composing and producing his songs. His timbre management of sounds continues to influence my way of producing pop music, whatever it is.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: Often my customers commission me songs to mix and beat to produce
