Chris Jake on SoundBetter

I have never done something different than music!! I'm sure that every little piece of music can sound better just with some help from other ears. We get caught up easily in our 'bubble' as I call it - so asking a friend or trying such a service like soundbetter could help our sound to become what we imagine!

Chris Jake is an Austrian singer, songwriter and producer. Even in his youth he played on the biggest stages in the country and landed in the charts with his band The Hitchhikers. In recent years Chris Jake has turned to electronic music and caused a stir with remixes for Steve Aoki. In 2020 he decides to go his own way and release his own tracks. His first single, FIND YOU, defines what he stands for as a solo artist: fat beats, sunshiny vibes and the courage to show great emotions. With the Razorlight cover ‘AMERICA’ feat. Marie Ann he can conquer the biggest Spotify playlists for himself. Now he's releasing his new single LOVERS very soon to show the world that the future of electro-pop lives in the middle of good old Austria!

Interview with Chris Jake

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm working on a new project with a music video shoot which got extremely big - I'm so excited!!!

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Digital, because it's way affordable and easy to use.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: Happiness haha I hope - and Motivation

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I just love to work everyday like it's my hobby.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: How I want to receive tracks - deadlines - prices, etc

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Just contact me and we talk about what you need!!

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: laptop - mic - guitar - headphones and a shaker, cause why not!

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I am doing this my whole life. I started to play several music instruments when I was a kid, because my father was music teacher. When I was 13 I started to play guitar - till today. After studying music (guitar) in Vienna I am (till now) a hard working musician on his mission.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Melodic - sunshine vibes - emotional - powerful

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Diplo! Because he seems to be a cool guy. haha

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Work on your Vocal Arrangement!!! It is 50% of your song, it's not just a toppling. People get so creative in that process. So trying to maybe invest in some vocal plugins is surely a good thing. For example: izotope vocal synth. Killer!! :)

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Usually Electronic Pop, but I tend to do everything. I also am making music for video creators - really any kind of videos and music is needed there. In general I am open to new stuff and also am constantly working on new Genres to keep being updated.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: It's hard to say it about yourself but I would say Music Theory is a big part. And Arrangement as well. As most people try to want this ONE song soo much that they often forget to work on Arrangement.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: 100% of my emotions. No, really. I try to put everything in a song what it needs. And then I always try to put the last 10% extra on it.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: Depends on what's the matter. Usually I tend to take a reference song as a starting point to imagine the vibe when are looking for. Then we start right into it. Let's go and make music!!!

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: I use an apollo 8p as my main setup - combined with a tube mic from rode - classic 2!! Killer Sound :) I produce and work with Pro Tools - after nearly 10 years of audio production I got really fast and used to the process. As well it's great for recording - the best for recording. I also studied guitar at university in Vienna - for that I use a Kemper Amp, so I got all the sounds we can imagine in one place. For drums and Bass - I have the best people here to play your record.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: I started to listen ACDC when I was young - started playing guitar, went to study music, but found myself 100% in producing music. Now - the people who inspire me are people like: Luca Pretolesi, Jonas Aden, Zedd, Quix, Brohug, ...

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: Typically I produce whole songs for my clients, that includes producing beats or recording real instruments, recording vocals and backing vocals as well as recording anything we can imagine.
