Interview with Lasse K.H.P
Q: Analog or digital and why?
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: 100% satisfaction
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The music
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That you can learn quick and that a great mix can be done with a template
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Reference tracks
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be specific with what you want and send some references tracks, that makes it alot easier for a mixing or mastering engineer to hit it spot on.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Macbook, Speakers, Soundcard, Korg MS20, Fender Jaguar
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Been doing this for 8years, started out playing guitar 20years ago.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Think creative. Try to run to make beats with foley sounds that you record or run your synth though a pedal to give it some egde. And don't be afraid of distortion, it bring warmth and fuzz to something maybe sounding a bit small. And don't try to trough everything you can get your hands on in the tune, the best records are often simple and doesn't have 15 pads floating.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: All types, If only the tunes is good
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My main goal is always to enhance the best parts of the song. If it needs to be dirty, i'll crunch the mix. If it needs to pump for the clubs, then i'll work alot on the bass etc. Every project is different, but I like things to sound larger than life, to be massive.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Hybrid setup, running trough either Logic or Ableton, using analog processing to flavour tracks and add warmth.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Bonobo, Justice, Daft Punk, Nirvana, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Killers, Led Zeppelin, Foo Figthers, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan Fathers John Misty, Bicep, Maribou State, Kasabian, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkey, Muse, Jon Hopkins, Trentemøller - I like all sorts of music
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing & Mastering tracks within many different genres
