I'm a vocalist/ songwriter having worked with numerous producers and songwriters including Steve Dubs - (The Chemical Brothers), Ruadhri Cushnan - (Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheehan.) I Co-wrote and performed 'Chameleon Life' for Sony Music which was nominated for a 'Meteor Choice Music Prize Song of The Year' award.
Hi All!
I'm a full time singer / songwriter originally from Ireland and based in London. I have my own setup so my turnaround is fast!
Past collaborations and features include Spinning Deep, Solotoko Records, Sweat it Out Records, Audio Network, Sony Music and EMI.
My most recent songs and vocals have been used on MTV 'The Hills' , Desperate Housewives, Dance Academy and numerous tv shows and adverts in the USA and UK.
I've also just released one of my singles 'I Will Follow' under my name 'Rachel Barror'
I you're looking for a nice, smooth and clean vocal with a bit of flavour, I'm your lady! I'm always up for recording some add Libs and harmonies to really lift a track and give it that edge.
I can edit and comp the track (refer to price listing) but I don't tune the vocals. From past experience I have found clients always prefer a clean dry vocal so they have more freedom to style it as they wish.

Rachel has supersonic hearing and can pick up a song roughly five seconds after she hears it... Her voice is both contemporary and classic at the same time

Rachel truly has supersonic hearing... she can pick up a song, like lightning... on our most recent collaboration, she added all sorts of interesting harmonies, I would never have dreamt of

Rachel has supersonic hearing and can sing any genre. She can pick up a new song, pretty much, immediately.

I had a great experience mixing and mastering for Rachel! Her song and vocal performance are absolutely stunning! I hope to work with Rachel again soon!
As a Professional Producer and Studio owner of many years its rare to come across a singer as talented as Rachel. She has a superb voice , She's versatile and her tuning is great, and she is a pleasure to deal with on a professional and personal level , all of the things that make my job easy. She has my full recommendation
I've worked with Rachel on a number of pop/EDM projects - including some projects that landed high profiles syncs. She's a great vocalist, with a unique tone, and also has amazing songwriting skills - and a great knack for coming up with a catchy topline.
Rachel is a true professional, I will definitely be working with her again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her.Rachel is an amazing vocalist with quite a unique tone to her voice. We have worked together on a number of dance music projects over the past couple of years and each time she makes the process so easy. Ive been able to send her instrumentals and allow her to take the track to where it needs to be. Each time she has gone beyond my expectations. I would highly recommend using her vocal & songwriting skills to any producers, publishers, labels or artists. She writes top lines for fun and is an absolute joy to work with. In my eyes she’s an undiscovered gem waiting to be found.
Interview with Rachel B
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop, Apogee , Mic,
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started off as a pianist so was headed down that path up until around 15 years old .. I had always been singing but when I got a main role in a musical theatre production in Dublin everything changed. I have always been writing songs though since I was really young. I sang in Blues Bars, acid Jazz bands , girl groups and then eventually moved to London where I ended up signing a production deal . I then toured Asia and Switzerland as a singer for a few years until I realised I needed to get back to doing my own songwriting which is when I returned to London.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say it's a little bit of pop 'n' soul with a quirky edge:)
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I absolutely love 'Cinematic Orchestra' and would love to work with them. Their vocalists are always amazing and their music transcends words, I just love their vibe.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't overthink a melody or idea too much as sometimes the best ideas or vocal takes are the ealriest ones.. I find the more you record a vocal the more it loses that spark.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I write a lot of music with DJ/. Producers whoa re looking for vocalists and top liners. I also write a lot of library music, mainly pop/ soul or if I'm pitching for the artists it's always in the Pop/R'N'B category
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Harmonies, Ad Libs, hooks and singing:)
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring my own vibe to each song which Is quite dynamic. Rather than showing off my voice as a vocalist I listen to the song closely to see what it needs and ask how my voice will compliment it best. I can be really intimate with my vocal when needed but can then go full power when the song is calling out for it. Dynamics is really important I feel, as it brings more emotion and depth to a song cant could otherwise sound flat, so I like to show that range to aswell. I also love building harmonies and add libing but only when it's needed, that can be really fun:)
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I receive a track I'll have a listen through and have my mic recording at the same time . I'll just sing any ideas melodic or lyrics that come out. less thought involved at the early stages the better! then I'll go back and choose parts to keep or not .. Depending on what I've come up with I'll start writing lyrics and structuring the song . Then I'll record it all at once to start and just get a feel for it .
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I use a Rhode NTK Condensor Microphone along with an Apogee One and Logic Pro X
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm really inspired by amazing vocalists..That's my main thing , hearing a voice that not only has a great tone and range but also a voice that sings from the soul and speaks form the heart. You can hear it in the smalls details like the cracks of the voice or the imperfections and those are the artists that inspire me as they always go beyond the melody and words. I'm really inspired by Prince and his completely fearlessness when it comes to his art. He embodies the music on every level! 'Cinematic Orchestra' are so good , I love their vibe and every song they write is always different to the last. I also love SIA's voice, she is also on a totally different level when it comes to singing, she's a true artist and totally unapologetic, which I love. Other vocalists I've always been into are the classics such as Robyn S, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Cece Peniston. I'm really into harmonies aswell so The Isley Brothers, Cameo, Steely Dan are some of my favourites too.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I work a lot with dance / house producers / DJs writing top lines and recording my vocals . I tend to write. a lot of soulful pop aswell, I've always naturally leaned in that direction !
