Carlo M. Dini on SoundBetter

Orchestral wizardry, made in Amsterdam (with perhaps a tad of italian flair?) I've worked on film scores and death metal bands and most of what's in between. Get in touch and I'll provide you with a bunch of things to listen to!

I'm a fan of storytelling in its every shape and form. I'm eager to do what's required to serve the song, the story, the film, the art piece, or what have you; just as much as I adore bringing my own taste into projects.

Recent music credits include Voodoo Kungfu latest releases, Noxus, and Black yet Full of Stars.

It's hard to find nowadays someone that treats you like an artist, since the very beginning, more than a session guy who has to follow the instructions like a robot.
I really found a great person to work with, someone who understood my value and wanted me to help him with my experience, which is pure gold 'cause I felt like home since we started.
The level of composing it's so high that there're no enough "stars" to rate this guy in the way he deserves. Hope to work again with you soon, man!

Fantastic arranger and composer. I had a tight deadline that he was able to meet with a wonderful final product. You'd be foolish not to work with this guy.

It's great to work with Carlo, on multiple levels! He made beautiful scores for one of my solo-theater pieces. Being an experienced artist himself, he could adapt to my creative process right form the beginning, where I did not have yet the clarity to know exactly what I as looking for. Yet he was very patience and a great sparring partners, providing different options to inspire me and also great creative ideas! Carlo is very friendly and professional and of course also an amazing composer! Definitely recommended!

Carlo worked on our short film and was nothing but a pleasure and a professional. He was always open to our thoughts, and always eager to collaborate with the best of intentions. He worked to understand our vision and helped to bring the film to life. He was a great contributor to the project and I hope to work with him again soon.

Carlo was one of the first composers I worked with on my short films. We kept working ever since. Carlo brings skill, humor and drama (in a joyous way!!!) to a production. He has sharp eyes and knows how dramatics, pacing and sound design work; this all is combined in his masterful scores that create a new depth to the stories I wish to tell.

Carlo is a really great musician and producer! He actually produced my very first single which was a success! He has great skill and talent in making music, it's as if he can do any genre as long as it's related to your vision. As for his personality, he is a very kind and charming guy! He's so fun to work with! Though there are some misunderstandings along the way, he's easy to communicate with to fix those misunderstandings! He is professional and he helps you understand every step being taken in the production. He works very hard--above and beyond! I totally recommend Carlo!

I have turned to MusicbyNowhere for three songs now. In each case the work Carlo provided exceeded my expectations. His talent and creativity are remarkable. He demonstrates a command of complex music composition, and I've seen that in multiple genres. He is easy to work with, communicative, and fair-minded. I highly recommend him and look forward to working with him again!

Five stars are not enough! Nowhere is absolutely genial. A power, melodic, and romantic sound if necessary. His orchestrations are really natural. I will work with him again

Interview with Carlo M. Dini

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: I believe that if you seek an arranger you are looking for someone to babysit your child, and if you seek a composer you are looking for a babysitter for your idea, which is kinda the... same? You get my point, hopefully. When it comes to your children you probably want someone to raise them properly and do their very best. Be sure you understand each other and they can take care of them. For as much as this is certainly "just a job" for some people, I believe you will be able to tell when there is gonna be some extra care, if you are talking to the provider that is right for you.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: Seven years this year - if you don't read this in 2023, seven years and running. I studied harmony and classical literature, and years of papyrs and vases turned me into a sucker for storytelling, which hopefully says everything about how I write music today. I like music that develops, and I like music that tells a story. I moved to Amsterdam to finish my studies, and here I kept working on music for my friends in Italy. When it came to the point that I realized I could turn it into a job, that is exactly what I did. I opened my company here in the Netherlands and through internet and contacts I kept it going, and I'm quite proud of that.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital. I can write faster, hearing immediately how it will likely sound, I can correct mistakes. Last but not least, I can do recalls.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: The music.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: I got four for you! Wiggle your CC1's and volumes a ton when writing or mixing instruments such as violins, flutes Saturate your brass ever so slightly to give them the brassy magic. Brightening too much the mix bus, then compress or even limit exactly the area you boosted, it gives a lot of air without destroying anyone's ears. Use an imager on your doublebasses, so you can keep them panned heavily (as they should be in most classical music scenarios) but their low end you can make mono, to keep the punch and depth of the mix. Extra: phase and reverbs are the real enemies.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Mostly soundtracks. When it comes of arrangement, simple string sections for pop songs, or heavy orchestras for heavy music.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: Width and depth. And drama, why not.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: A lot of talking, questions, back and forths of ideas, and exchanging of references, to understand what my clients seek. I like to have a call when it is possible, to get to know each other and have a deeper understanding of what's needed: I found that usually is more clear when it happens via speech. After that, technicalities, bpm, key and such if it is an arrangement, specific indications if it is an original piece. And after that, I would start write, usually I make at least a couple of demos or alternatives, on piano or with simpler patches, to be sure I'm on the right path. Once that is confirmed, I keep working until completition.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Typically on Soundbetter, if it is not regarding a full production, I like to think I give a facelift to songs. Song which the artist believed to be needing some extra oomph, and if they come to me that is typically the orchestral type, of oomph! I believe that is a good 60% of what I do through this platform. The rest is composition, tailored to whichever needs are requested.
