Gritty boombap, soul, funk, lo-fi sound
Mainly producing through his AKAI MPC1000 and 2000XL, Six The Northstar has mastered an assembly of a multitude of sounds and samples taken from old records tastefully selected, chopped, and masterfully manipulated. Through the entirety of his work, a listener will hear Six’s tastes shine through -- a mix of soul, jazz, and funk, armed with a fresh hip-hop beat. In his career as a musician, Six has worked has been part of notable Filipino indie groups such as A.M.P.O.N., Archon Akeenz, MurderDeathKill (MDK), Logiclub and international collective New Cocoon and had most recently been, one third of the hip hop group Shadow Moses. Recently had released the album "Sounds From Within", an OST for the street culture documentary "From Within" by renowned director Mong Feliciano & the album "Streets We Frequent" for the dynamic duo Dante & Amigo.
Six infuses his beats with traces of soul, funk, jazz, and world music. The SixTrueMentals tease with morsels of Thievery Corporation-like tunes yet unlike the Washington DC-based outfit’s music that is strikes out into rich new territory because of its pastiche of cultures and sounds, Six the Northstar instead takes us back to those familiar places where we have fond memories. It’s like a signpost soundtrack.
