Having been in Cherry Glazerr, Pageants, and Avi Buffalo (back when I was 19) I've developed a unique perspective that's steeped in early 00's indie rock and influenced by my tenure as house engineer at BIG EGO Studios. Subscribing to a DIY aesthetic, I've figured out how to make records from the ground up and would love to help with your project.
I started recording my friends because I had a MacBook and GarageBand. Little did I know it would become a lifetime obsession. I never considered myself much of a musician during my art school days, so naturally I found solace in the technical side of things. Most of my progression as an engineer grew out of necessity—first eking out records with little gear, then thankfully upgrading and learning over a good 12 years. Luckily I've always been able to split my time between being in bands (Pageants—Bass/Guitar, Cherry Glazerr—Bass, and Avi Buffalo—Guitar) and working as an engineer/producer out of my home studio and BIG EGO Studios.
I'm mostly focused on remote mixing but I love producing and working on projects from the ground up. Although I'd say I specialize in indie rock, pop, jazz, and folk, I can do it all.
Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with Devin O'Brien
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work on indie rock and jazz.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I feel like I'm pretty good at adapting to different situations and figuring out ways to solve problems. For example, when I'm recording a 12 piece ensemble, I have to think quick and keep the big picture in mind otherwise I could get into a situation where I'm wasting everyones time. It's easy to draw parallels to mixing or production.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My experience with the bands that I've been in and the musicians and producers I've worked with has left me with a discerning ear and the ability to bridge the gap between what the artist envisions and the final product.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When I sit down to mix I like to have a good idea of what the artist is going for and what I can do to elevate the song. Engineering and production is a totally different story. Each project has its own set of challenges from a technical and artistic standpoint but my goal is to remain open minded, receptive, and clear.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm the house engineer at BIG EGO Studios and I have a home studio and mix room with universal audio conversion and adam ax7s with a sub. I have some outboard effects and compression for a little added color.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The majority of work for clients outside of Pageants is engineering.
