I went into this wanting a vocal demo. Kyla delivered so much more that and absolutely blew me away! She's an incredibly talented artist who's only bound by her ambition. I'm absolutely impressed

Interview with Kyla

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: It gives me the freedom to work with artists, musicians and producers all over the world that are just as passionate about music as I am.

  3. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  4. A: Vocals and accompaniment of harmonies.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: People think that it's easy! It's a puzzle more than anything. We're all looking to fit various pieces into one magnificent track. What's primarily important is communication and the ability to get what's in our heads as artists, onto paper, and out into the open for the world to hear.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Think about the track you have ready and what vibe you want your listeners to feel. That vibe you want to feel is the kind of vibe you should be looking for when you listen to various vocalists. It's all about tonality and how versatile their voice can be. You want to elaborate on what's special about your music and find someone who can emphasize this - not dampen or overdo it! It's all about balance.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I can't do anything half-asked. I always give my best.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: What do you want people to feel when they listen to your tracks? How can I style my voice to fit your piece to the best of my ability?

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: My Mac, Logic Pro X, USB condenser Mic, Pop Filter and Midi Keyboard. (basics) - Just hope there will be Wifi on this island.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I've been a live musician for the past few years doing gigs around the city and also producing and recording vocals (freelance) for the past year or so - collaborating with amazing producers globally.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Dynamic, Versatile, Soft with potential to be loud. I often choose to sing softly so as to evoke more emotion in the songs I create, though I know there are songs out there, I've had to cover with a more strong vocal.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Odesza - the music they create is so unique to them and the way they produce the tracks they make is fantastic. I haven't heard anything like them! They are definitely one group I'd love to collaborate with.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Mostly Acoustic, Pop and occasionally EDM.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: Melodious Vocals and balanced Harmonies.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: I like to hear the song first, read through the lyrics and feel the vibe of it before I do anything with it. To me, it's primarily important to carry the songs 'essence' and 'vibe' into and through-out the song and elaborate on that instead of over-editing and losing it to 'perfectionism'. Dynamics are a focal point for me as a musician. If I can't feel anything, no-one will. That emotion and feeling is what's key!

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: Mostly Vocals. I have a versatile vocal range and style that caters too various genres.
