Ryan Alfred is a bassist, sound engineer, and synthesist. He has travelled the world as the bassist and harmony singer in Calexico and toured with Telluride Bluegrass Festival winners Run Boy Run. As a sound engineer, he has toured with The Jayhawks, Nick Lowe, The Swell Season, and many others. He has a degree in Music Synthesis from Berklee.
I am available for the following remote session work:
Bass recording - Upright (Lemur Liberty Belle Carved Top) and Fretted Electric (4 String Fender P-Bass). Recorded direct via Cloudlifter ZI, as well as a variety of mic / amp combinations (for upright, generally AKG 414 -> UAD 4-710, and for electric Ampeg SVT w/ Beyer M88), which can be discussed ahead of time.
I play all styles, except the shreddiest bebop and serious classical, but I specialize in Americana, Rock (50's to now), and pop. Before accepting any work I listen to the demos to make sure it's something I am confident I can deliver on.
Sound design / Keys - I am available to create custom sound beds, keys tracks, arpeggios, and a wide variety of cinematic / electronic layers, both for expressly electronic music and also for layering into singer-songwriter / rock-based projects. This is a giant world, so significant communication is necessary to help me understand exactly the kind of layers you need, but my vocabulary of techniques and gear is large enough to fit a wide variety of needs. Depending on the software used, I can also deliver patches you can use in your live show.
My go-to synth equipment:
Analog Synthesis - DSI Prophet Rev2, Moog Matriarch, Eurorack modular rig, Lyra-8, Behringer Model D
Digital Subtractive - NI Massive
Digital Sampler - NI Kontakt
FM - Elektron Digitone and NI FM-8
