NIZA SIMUKONDA
Although Niza Simukonda, who is the son of Zambian music legend Ackim Simukonda, has the
burden of carrying on the legacy of his late father, he considers it a beautiful burden. Niza, now in his
late 20s, has a passion for playing the guitar, just like his father, and is one of the smoothest vocalists
in Zambia today. It becomes apparent after hearing Niza sing, that he is an artist in his own right with
a long and bright future ahead.
His first single Tata Wandi (my father) is an ode to his father and a response to the final hit song
recorded by the late Ackim Simukonda 20 years ago titled Bana Bandi (my children). On Tata Wandi,
Niza worked with top musicians to bring the song to life. The artists who lent their musical talents to
the song were James Sakala, who produced and helped re-write the lyrics, Tsean and Ben Banda who
co-produced it while session artists included Lazarus “Lalo" Zulu on keyboards, Celestine Mapulanga
on guitars, Elvie Njeka on bass guitar and Kasonde Sunkutu on drums. It was mixed by award-
winning Zambian producer Ben Blazer and mastered in the USA by the in-demand mastering-veteran
Dave Collins, who has worked on the music of D’Angelo, Linkin Park and the late Luther Vandross
among many others
