Over 11 years experience in the industry as a professional recording artist, session vocalist, live performance, top line writing & songwriting. My self-penned song 'Miracle' fought off 300 other entries when I was one of six acts shortlisted to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest. I then went onto write for other Eurovision acts including Martin Fitch and worked closely with Louis Walsh on a track for Ireland. Other credits include working with producer Jonas Westling (Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Usher, Paul McCartney) BMG, Warner, Soundiva Italy. Collaborations with Vangelis Polydorou from BBC's The Voice, Finland's DJ Herman, Ivano Icardi.

One of the most talented guys I’ve had the pleasure of recording in my studio. Karl came to my studio when he was living in London and we quickly hit it off. He barely needed any direction or pointers as he knew exactly what he was doing. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: Joel Evenden & Ben Haynes - both fantastic producers.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: "Your speaking voice doesn't sound like your singing voice!" I have worked as a music manager for an American Cruise Line company. With over 200+ songs in my repertoire, I would perform with the live band every night, songs that would range from Motown, Classic Rock, 80's Soul, Funk & more. Therefore, I have trained my voice to sound as versatile as possible which has positively influenced & broadened my session singing opportunities.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: - Provide me with as much information as possible. - I will always stick to your brief but allow me to bring my own ideas to the table, you can always say no to it!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't get in the way of the music too much - let it flow organically. If you are thinking too long or too hard about a particular song, it's not the right time. Let it breathe, clear the mind and come back to it with fresh ears and an open mind.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: - Commercial pop songs for other bands/artists. - Commercial pop songs for my own releases. - Songs written specifically to brief for sync opportunities in TV shows, movies, commercial, etc... - Session singing on tracks to be pitched to other artists.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: - Layering vocals and creating unique harmonies. - Strong lyrics that are universal but not cliche.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I am not a songwriter that tends to carry around tons of notepads, jotting down lyrics at any available opportunity. For me, the music, the composition the chord structure and the 'energy' of the song seems to come first. The vocal melody comes next and when I start to feel that develop, I turn my microphone on and begin to sing anything. Subconsciously, lyrics begin to emerge during this point which is the start of the lyric writing process.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ryan Tedder - I admire that he writes, produces & performs his own work but also writes for other bands/artists. It is a great skill to write for someone who is a very different artist from yourself but he has an innate ability write in a very universal manner. Prince - he wrote and played every instrument on every single track on his 'Emancipation' album. Genius is an understatement. Tori Amos - one of the greatest live performers I have witnessed. She is definitely chanelling some other-worldy energy when she plays piano. Her lyrics are cryptic & challenging yet allow you to gain your own interpretation. George Martin - producer of The Beatles. You should check out The Making Of The White Album. At this point, The Beatles were no longer a functioning band, but 4 individual egos each with their own studio hashing out songs for this lengthy double album. George Martin managed to bring that madness together in an eclectic and highly accomplished record that, for me, remains their best.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Session Singing - I am given the lyrics & vocal melody and I record my vocals to the track - keeping it as close to the demo as possible unless there is room for my own additional ideas. Topline Writing - I am given the instrumental track and am asked to write the lyrics and vocal melody. Songwriting - purely lyric writing.
