Interview with Mathias Lunde
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want me to bring to your song and what does the song mean to you?
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I do a variety of music. It is mainly work with Pop, Rock, R&B, Hip-Hop and Gospel music. I have worked with clients in different countries including India, USA, UK, Germany, China, South Korea, Japan etc.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Being patient and professional with my clients and delivering a result they can be proud of.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can bring enhanced emotions. I could make your song feel more heavy, I could make it feel lighter. I can fill spaces and also leave gaps. I will take your song to the next level
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I recieve a song with instructions and a song reference and I sit down to record the files. I try to get in to the mind of the producer to see what is really needed in this song. I may record extra parts as options so the producer can choose or chop up parts to create the framework from my guitars. If the producer wants a revision, I always take time to fully understand what the producer wants more before I proceed to record. Being precise and effective is key words for me.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a variety of different guitars and amps. The guitars include Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster, PRS DGT and Tremonti, MJT/Nebelung Lydia, Furch OM35 steel string and Takamine Nylon String. My amps include Suhr Bella (Fender Style), Bad Cat (Vox/Matchless style), Marshall, Helix. I record my acoustics through a nice condenser microphone and can be stereo mic'd as well.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm a big fan of the session legends before me. Steve Lukather and the rest of Toto, Larry Carlton, Tim Pierce and many more.
