I work as a songwriter, session musician and sound engineer and can offer mixing and mastering services. I have worked with artists such as: Bug (art-rock) Molly Buchan (indie-folk) and Callum Wall (indie) all of which have my material available on spotify.
I work with a hybrid analog/digital workstation, this includes a 24 channel analog mixing console, an analog FET compressor and an analog tube eq. I am fluent in Logic Pro X. I am also a qualified engineer having completed a second course as of may 2021 and am continuing to study commercial modern music in BIMM Dublin. I typically work with Indie bands but have worked with other artists such as rappers, singer songwriters and dj’s. I can guarantee exceptional quality.

Interview with Benjamin Christopher
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have a solo project called This Morning, i recently completed an album using nothing but analog equipment, I did however use midi synths but i made them from scratch.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: many originals
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: not that i know personally
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: can’t decide, analog emulation is quite good and can give you the warmth and harmonic distortion you crave but analog workflow, in my opinion, is a beautiful thing.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: the effort will always be made to make your project my best work so far.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: getting to work on interesting songs with very interesting people.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: “it’s complicated” it is and it isn’t, by that i mean it’s overwhelming at the start but you get used to things and you learn to flow with everything.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What equipment was used to track the song, is it a DAW file or just stems.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: ask the question, you don’t sound stupid, we’re here to provide you with a service, you deserve to understand that service to the best of your ability.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I think an immensely large SSL desk to use as a raft would be my first choice but i think it would sink :(
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been done this since 2016 however i wasn’t able to get release ready recordings until late last year, since then after completing my first course in audio engineering with distinction I’ve been recording and mixing every single day and feel confident enough to put my mixes beside some of the bigger artists.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I’m not entirely sure, it varies from record to record, my style is whatever the song requires.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: The Night Café, they have this incredibly high quality clean cut record that i would’ve loved to work on and add my own 7 herbs and spices.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: truly listen to how everything plays off eachother, bass and kick, guitar and synth, etc.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: usually indie, that’s just cause there’s a lot of great indie bands that need a good sounding record to put out there. However i’ve done folk, singer-with-acoustic-guitar and hip hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: my strongest skill is probably compression and knowing which compressor, when and how.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: i bring my own unique sound, wether it’s a raw sound you want or a big studio sound i can do it, and still let the song have its own unique flavor.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: i usually mix while i’m tracking everything, after tracking’s done i start with drums, then make sure the bass and kick play off eachother, then guitars, then synths (if there are any) and then vocals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: fairly hybrid, researched what was right for me in my small studio so that i can make professional recordings.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chris Lorde Alge, Tchad Blake, too many to name
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Tracking and Mixing, typically in a pre-booked studio.
