Hi, I'm Dan. I'm a Pop producer and mix engineer from Auckland, NZ. I have a background studying jazz, and engineering and mixing in a world class recording studio. These experiences give me a lot of tools when producing popular music. I have also produced music for TV shows (Dancing with The Stars NZ)
MY STRENGTHS:
Genre Diversity - I'm very good at switching between most genres in the pop/urban realm.
Vocal Production - clients consistently tell me that my vocals production is amazing. From harmonies and adlibs to the Vocal mix.
Creative Guitarist - I like to find interesting and unique and hooks and parts.
Understanding of complex harmony - I'm equally at home writing songs with standard pop chords as I am pushing the boundaries and adding some RnB flavor.
Skilled synth programmer - Have almost every soft synth under the sun.
Punchy Beats - My drum programming will get your head grooving and make you want to dance.

I had a great experience working with Dan, very responsive, professional and very clear communication. The production sounded incredible, definitely one of the highlights of projects I have worked on here on SoundBetter in a while. I am really looking forward seeing where the song goes and I am looking forward to more collaborations in the future!

Dan's work is amazing !!! Was a pleasure work with him.
Such a fun and comfortable session. He really took in my references and helped me create my own thing in a super fresh way. It's important to find people who listen to what you want, and Olympus really does just want you to be happy with the outcome. Both production and mixing was quick and such high quality. Couldn't recommend him more!
For the past year I've worked with Olympus and he's one of the best in the game hands down. His production quality is Insane and vocal production is one of the best if not 𝙩𝙝𝙚 best in the country. He's helped me so much with arrangement and writing + he's super down to earth and professional to work with. He's honest with his criticism and highly constructive which in turn makes him a producer I can trust and rely on. Can't wait to continue working with him in the future!
Highly recommend working with Dan. I’ve worked with Olympus/Dan for the last ten years on and off. I’ve been involved in 2 full length albums and multiple singles that he has produced/written & I can honestly say that he is the guy you want producing. Incredible guitarist, lyricist, Song writer, and engineer. He has a killer ear for melody and has the ability to pull the best out of songs. Great dude.
I have worked with Ølympus Music on several occasions and every time, not only was the quality of the production excellent, the producer was a pleasure to work with. They really got the best out of me as a musician and I can't wait to work with him again in future.
Working with Olympus was nothing short of amazing! I had written a song, that meant a lot to me but I didn’t like it’s production I felt that there were still voids that needed to be filled. I worked with Olympus in the time span of 1 day and magic happened! My song was complete and radio ready! Not only did he have a good ear on beat making but the way he instructed and advised various vocal techniques to be added in to my song was astonishing! An amazing producer who is easy going and adds a pop of colour to the art you are trying to paint.
First time Olympus mixed for me was an amazing experience. He is very hands on and gets the job done to a very hi quality standard and at a very fast professional grade. I have had him mix a couple of my tracks and am thoroughly pleased and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a professional grade mix and master.
My first experience with ØLYMPUS was an absolutely fantastic one. We chose to record at the beautiful Parachute Studios in Auckland, New Zealand. This studio has a great energy and vibe to it and luckily enough we were matched with Daniel for our session.
His method, attitude and meticulousness helped us finish our single in one day of recording.
Daniel also took the reins for mixing & mastering which again was a great experience. Quick turnover, great communication and happy to do your tweaks so you walked away sparkling with your mint finished product. Highly recommended!
Interview with ØLYMPUS Music
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Really depends on the project but I like to go with ideas as I get them, getting them down, even if its only 70 percent there, at least it's there and I can move on with new ideas. Then I can come back later and refine everything, making things perfect.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital mainly. I like recording real instruments, and analogue compressors are amazing on vocals. But for ease of use I like to mainly use soft synths and mix entirely in the box.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Top 40 style pop with influence from the 80's, Trap, Hip Hop, and RnB.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: The Weekend. I love his voice and the 80's mixed with hip hop sound
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Getting the hats and percussion right is the key to drum production. Always slightly swing the hats, add random or predetermined changes in velocity and even slight pitch and pan position variations. These all help the hats feel 'real'
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal production is an area that I shine. My clients are consistently praising my ability to produce/engineer and mix vocals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio setup where I work fully in the box with soft synths and my American Deluxe Telecaster. I also rent a professional top end studio space 2 days a week with gear such as a Manley Reference mic, 1176 compressor, API Preamps and a wide range of electric/acoustic guitars.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Obviously the GOAT Max Martin, Joel Little (Lorde) who is a fellow New Zealander, Frank Dukes, Louise Bell, Andrew Watt.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I grew up making music in church, then went and studied jazz guitar, even though I knew I wanted to produce pop music. That knowledge has been invaluable to me as it allowed me to understand complex music theory which comes out in my music. I also have worked in a professional recording studio as an in house Producer/Engineer/Mixer. This gave me a lot of experience tracking real instruments and incorporating them in my 'in the box' style productions.
