I'm Josh. I'm a mixing engineer and guitarist based out of New York City who loves doing one thing and one thing only: making some great music.

I've been playing guitar and recording music since I started my own high school band. It was me and four of my friends--and we sounded awful. I was the singer and I sounded like kermit the frog with a bad case of bronchitis on a good day. But it didn't matter: every day after school would practice in one of our basements and we'd love every second of it.

All that mattered was that we were jamming. It was the most euphoric happiness I'd ever felt, and I haven't been able to shake that feeling since.

Thankfully, I sound a lot better now than fourteen-year-old-Josh. For nine years, I've been honing my craft as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and mixing engineer. Now I want to use these skills to do what I enjoy most: make someone's music sound the best it possible can.

Interview with Josh Couvares

What do you like most about your job?
I get to work with music, all the time!
What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
Mixing and mastering are two vastly different things. I may know what I'm doing when I'm mixing a song, but I'm the first to admit I'm far from a professional when it comes to mastering.
Can you share one music production tip?
Always double track the vocals on the chorus--trust me on this one. It will make the finished procut sound wider and fuller and really bring out the melody line
What do you bring to a song?
I try to turn every track into a visceral experience--I want you to FEEL the music, how it makes you want to move your feet, bob your head, or sing along
