Allen Constantine on SoundBetter

I am a professional film/tv/advertising/media music composer, seeking to expand my work in this domain. A deep passion for music that connects an audience with a producer's vision drives me to want to work with you directly and fulfill your expectations, at the highest production standards.

Over the past several years I have achieved competency in using my musical skills to help producers communicate, collaborating with ArtFx School on short films such as Meanwhile, Unknown, Sayonara and with directors Nick Wall (Retribution), Florin Danilov(Echoe and Vlad Păunescu(Live).

During the course of my career, I have worked in various styles, providing production music, custom library presentation demos and bespoke music projects for companies including Omnimusic in New York, EMI/Sony Production Music in London, Goldstein Music in London, Echoism-Music in France, Castel Film Studios, Maya Visuals, DeMoga Music and various Los Angeles agencies (Sonicsmiths, East West Quantum Leap, Waverunner Audio).

Being familiar with a great variety of instruments/software, both classical and hybrid, has helped me gain a complete suite of skills in this line of work, understanding the cinematographic world, not only from a visual perspective but from audio as well.

I would appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate my skills, passion, and reliability on any project you may have now or in the future.

Allen has provided not only outstanding demos for our sample libraries, but also valuable feedback and encouragement. His engagement and enthusiasm for musical tools manifests itself in his music. It's an extra element of excitement when it comes to release date, as I know Allen will provide a wonderful, timely piece of music.

Allen is one of the most talented musicians I’ve worked with. He’s extremely passionate about his music and therefore he has the unique ability to connect to vibes and emotions and redeliver them through music !

Interview with Allen Constantine

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: I like to think that I'm being transparent like a "chameleon", as I can transpose with ease, in any genre.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I began practicing music since childhood, having the honor to learn from my grandparents and my uncle. My grandfather played the accordion and my uncle, the guitar. I have been following this path from the age of 9 years old, and by the time I have finished the University of Music, Theatre and Arts, music connected me even better with the film industry. I am working as a music composer providing library music for OmniMusic for Media in New York, EMI Production Music in London, Synctracks London, product presentation demos for Sonicsmiths, Waverunner Audio and East-West Quantum Leap and commercials for various brands, such as Schwarzkopf, Vernel, Persil, IWC, McDonald's, E.ON, Miele, DIAL, TAFT, Mitsubishi Electric.

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: What is my typical workflow? Analyzing every aspect of what the client wants, in a professional manner.

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: I recently worked on an animation project for the ArtFx School of CGI in France as a score composer and producer. The short animated film is called "Sayonara" and it will be available to the public on April 22nd.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: At the moment, I am working on a score for a short drama film as well as composing for the EMI Production music library.

  11. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  12. A: As I am new to this, I don't know anyone yet, but I am convinced there are some very talented artists. I may have to check them out! :-)

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: As much as I love the analog sound, I am finding the digital side, much easier to get into, and also that it has a very fast learning curve.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: Always deliver with style and passion!

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: The ability to focus, be my own critic at all times and that I always strive to get the client's attention and deliver the best product.

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: I can't really figure one out at the moment, but I am pretty sure that I tend to question myself, perhaps like every artist out there, if I'm doing it progressively better as I know there is also room for improvement.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: Standard questions about NDA's, contracts and budgets.

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: I am a professional film/tv/advertising/media music composer, seeking to expand my work in this domain. A deep passion for music that connects an audience with a producer's vision drives me to fulfill the client's needs. I have also been recommended by top industry professionals such as Hans Zimmer, Beth Levin, Samuel Estes, Adam Schmidt, Plamen Dimov, Doug Wood(Omnimusic), Jeff Rona, Dave Hab, and many others.

  25. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  26. A: A piano, an acoustic guitar, a laptop, and a PC and I guess, a Korg Prologue synth.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: This is a hard one. In its essence, a combination of the classic era with the modern one. So, classical neo-romantic modern cinematic could describe my style.

  29. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  30. A: It's a hard question but I would love to work with artists such as Adele, Billie Eilish, Chris Martin(Coldplay), James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer, and Thomas Newman, just to name a few. Somehow, they just seem to "click" with my personal music tastes.

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: Always be your critic at all times and don't artificially get your hopes up until you're EQ'ing the sound of your life. If it is something you love to do, be prepared to learn constantly and apply with style.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: I've written music from pop to rock, to soundtracks and scores. I am usually working on scores at the moment because it is something that represents me as a composer. It is the one thing that inspires my creativity the most.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Styled unique originality.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: It is a hard question to answer, as I find that music has always been a part of me from the day I made a connection with its beauty. I get inspired just from hearing the sound of leaves falling from the trees, from the sound of the wind, making connections and themes and leitmotifs for maintaining a balanced state of mind and self. So, the reason is pretty simple. I let myself dive into each guideline I could get a grip on from the client and start from there.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio setup consists of ADAM Audio S2V studio monitors, Sennheiser HD650 headphones, Doepfer LMK4+ Midi controller keyboard, 2 custom acoustic, and electric guitars, a cello, a violin, shakers, tambourines, ukulele as well as a digital Kurzweil piano.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Professional composers such as Hans Zimmer, Johan Johansson, Max Richter, Ennio Morricone, John Williams, and James Newton Howard.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Composing and mixing. Over the past several years I have achieved competency in using my musical skills to help producers communicate, collaborating with ArtFx School on short films such as Meanwhile, Unknown, Sayonara and with directors Nick Wall (Retribution, Gain-which is in production at the moment), Michael Billington (The Only Way) and Vlad Paunescu(Live). During the course of my career, I have worked in various styles, providing production music, custom library presentation demos and bespoke music projects for companies including Omnimusic in New York, EMI Production Music in London, Massive Music in Tokyo, Goldstein Music in London, Echoism-Music in France, Castel Film Studios, Maya Visuals, DeMoga Music and various Los Angeles agencies (Sonicsmiths, East West Quantum Leap, Waverunner Audio).
