Based on a neo-soul style beat with a bassline and a chord progression I had produced, I got a stellar song back from Justis, who wrote lyrics, verse melody and chorus, and recorded a great-sounding song. Awesome! Will absolutely recommend Justis and I hope to work with her again in the near future since she is a joy to work with all in all.

Justis is supertalented, has a great, unique voice, a very high sense of quality and returned with a complete song; lyrics, verses, choruses, dubs etc in a week. What a fantastic experience that was, so thank you so much Justis and thank you SoundBetter for a great platform that makes this possible.
Interview with Justis Chanell
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My EP coming out soon. It's been a long time coming and I'm just excited to get the music out. I write songs all day every day so my role was basically picking which ones sound good together and creating a storyline based off that.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Two EP's that have nothing to do with each other.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Nope. Open to meeting them though!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog for the vintage feels.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To bring your vision to life! I want to make exactly what you want, no questions.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I just love music. Helping people out is a huggge plus as well. I get a kick out of using my talent for good.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How does this work? And no matter who it is, I'll explain the entire process to clear up any confusion. I love open dialogue, all questions get answered to the best of my ability.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It's easy! In reality, it's far from it.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's your goal? What's your vision? What would you like to achieve from this?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be thorough! Ask questions!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A pen, a notebook, headphones, a piano, and bongos.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been writing songs for about 6 years now. I never intended to make music, but it's always been a passion.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Edgy, lyrical, and soulful.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Timbaland, because he's legendary and a huge inspiration.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If it's not right, fix it. I promise it'll cause problems later on.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: R&B or Hip-Hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Soul, lyricism, charisma, and a unique sound.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I have to focus on the melody and the basis of the song. Once I have a clear understanding of where I should end up, it's easy for me to figure out how to get there.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work with Logic Pro X, and Apollo Twin Mini, a nice mic and studio monitors
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Erykah Badu, The Roots, Maxwell, Sade, Anita Baker
