My name is Jo Jaleel - I am a professional Mastering Engineer with 5 years of experience. Tracks I have mastered have gone on to receive airplay on BBC Radio in the UK, endorsed by social media entrepreneur star Gary Vaynerchuk, and most recently my solo single ‘Twin Flame’ reached 1M+ people when the song featured in a viral TikTok video in 2020.
As a vocalist, I am extremely determined on always getting the right takes for the music that is provided to me - I am open to a range of styles, from R&B, Soul, Pop, Funk, and even to genres such as Jazz and Country. Rapping is also in my forte, primarily singing rhythmically vs spoken, however I am always up to a challenge.
If I feel the vocal part needs harmonies, doubles, ad libs, etc. I will provide all of these to you at no extra cost - My ethos is always to feel and do what is best for the part, and I will do just that.
It would be an honour to sing on your latest production - I look forward to hearing from you!

A: Could I get the lyrics, please?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been singing since my childhood - Probably around 14 years, give or take.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: James Blake. That's it. There is no why. That's the answer.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never think, just do.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually, Pop & R&B.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is doing what feels right for the song. As a producer, I pay close attention to the delivery and emotion evoked in conjunction with the lyrics.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Whether it be a song of mine, or a song that is presented to me to sing on, I like to think I embody the character or narrator, and tailor the performance and delivery suited to the track.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Initially it is to get a feel for the track presented to me and how I will approach the delivery of the vocals dependent on the emotion and feeling of the song. From there I will pass quite a few takes until I feel happy and then comp the vocal in places if needed.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio set up is an SM7B Mic through a Focusrite ISA One pre-amp to an Apollo Twin Duo interface going in - I then do most of my processing and vocal mixing in the box using various UAD, Waves, and iZotope plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Some of my inspirations include Kanye West, Frank Ocean and James Blake.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I love singing in a range of styles, however my work over the years has mainly been in the Pop & R&B genres.
