Interview with Brett Raio
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently at work on my 2nd EP "Grateful." My debut EP is closing in on 600,000 streams, and we have a new pop/hip-hop single on the way as well this Friday, October 2nd.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Start with analog in the recording and production, and finish digital for the final production, mixing and mastering of the track. This is the best of both worlds, the analog recording and production allows for authentic sound, and the digital finalization ensures that the music is industry standard and best-received by those listening.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I primarily work on pop records, but also have experience in hip-hop and R&B genres as well.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The process almost always varies from track to track, but it usually consists of starting with an outline of the song structure with lyrics and chords, and is followed by building out the instrumental, refining production, and adding vocals only once a final or near-final instrumental is created. Proper mixing and a high-quality master finalizes the production process before the music is released to the public. Additional creative and promotional services can also be provided to best ensure that the music makes the greatest impact after release.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio includes the essentials for my musical production, the daw I use is Logic Pro X, and MIDI keyboards and pads include Yamaha and Akai products. In general I use an AT-3035 microphone with acoustic shielding for vocal recording, as well as some acoustic guitar recording for a more authentic sound.
