Charismatic, Award-Winning, Genre-Bending. I'm Eric Salazar (The Clarinet Guy), and I've recorded and released 10 albums in a multitude of genres (some independently, others with Centaur Records and Beneficence Records). When you work with me you get flexibility combined with a high standard of excellence and attention to detail.
I'm a professional clarinetist & composer known for being the kind of person who gets things done quickly and smoothly. Most of my steady work revolves around being a leader with performing or recording projects. I'm typically appointed to the role of facilitator, coordinator, and communicator. What that means for you is: if you hire me as a session musician, you have a guarantee that I am going to communicate well and stay organized so your project can be completed on time, with a high level of artistry.
I have a hybrid life as both a performer and composer. I'm asked to perform or record on projects in a variety of styles (ranging from rock to folk to classical to jazz, and beyond), but as a composer my specialization is in gaming and film music. I have an ongoing gaming music project called "Monsters & Melodies" where I compose the soundtrack to a live-play Dungeons & Dragons radio show and podcast. My latest film project was "Snag in the Plan" (with Teardrop Pictures), a short documentary about the Northern Long Eared Bat in the Hoosier National Forest.
Credentials aside, what sets me apart is my willingness to build authentic connections with collaborators. I listen, I learn, I help, and I'm comfortable with compromise. I will listen to your feelings, and I will tell you mine. Most importantly, I will work hard to ensure that your artistic vision is realized!

Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I manage people extremely well. I am able to bring out the best in people, and get them to work together as if they were a team that has known each other for years.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a charismatic, chameleon sound to songs. I am able to fit the clarinet into any genre in a way that is convincing and compelling.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically work using an Agile Methodology (breaking a project up into multiple phases, where each phase has constant collaboration). Basically, I focus on one goal at a time, making sure that there is constant communication around that goal. Once the goal has been achieved, I move on to the next phase after reflecting/critiquing the process that was used on the previous goal.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I typically either record clarinet on tracks of a variety of genres (sometimes improvising, sometimes playing a written part), compose soundtracks for games or film, or serve as project leader/producer to ensure recordings are made at a high quality and on time.
