Interview with FHB Productions
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: People often aks me why I'm still using FL Studio, as it's often seen as a 'beginner software'. Well, it doesn't matter that much WHAT you use, but it does matter HOW you use it. I think you can easily hit Top 100 Charts with a 200€ mic and a cheap preamp, as long as the engineer knows what he`s doing.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Talk to them and make sure your on the same page. Make clear what you want and what you want them to do.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: In terms of beatmaking, I'm more on the 'oldschool' side, but also love the new trap-style. In terms of mixing, I always try to fit the artists wishes. I don't think I really have a 'mixing-style' yet.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd like to work with Dr. Dre and Eminem, as they are one of the most influencal Hip Hop artists out there.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skills are probably beat programming, mixing vocals and finding lead melodys on already existing chords.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'll always try to bring your song to the next level.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both have their pros and cons :)
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love that my passion is my job. There's nothing better.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: All I need is my guitar :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing guitar since I was 6 years old. With 16 I started making 'music' in Fl Studio and some years later I decided to study audio engineering at the SAE Insitute in Munich. I'm 23 now and graduated succesfully.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't f**kin fix it in the Mix. No gear in the world can make a trash recording sound good, so better invest your money in optimising your room instead of buying overpriced Mics or Pres that promise you the world.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work on Hip Hop tracks, but also love to mix other stuff.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work almost completely in the box. Only when recording vocals I use a compressor right away. I got two pairs of speakers (+ Sub for the very low LowEnd ;) ), which both are measured to my room.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mostly do Mixing/Mastering jobs and I'm also a beat producer.
