What’s up?! My name is Rob and I’m a drummer/percussionist from New Jersey who’s looking to give your record the best drums possible. I have worked with a bunch of artists, tracked at different studios in my surrounding area, and now have the ability to work from home. I live for making the drums in your head come through your speakers!
At a young age, I was instantly attracted to the hard hitting, fast-paced music that bands were putting out in my area. Around 15 years old, is when I started to track drums for my first bands record. Since then, I've been on a bunch of records for not only my own projects, but other bands who needed drums. From 4 piece punk outfits, to a 12 piece big band, I pride myself on being very versatile in my playing.
Rock’n’roll is my bread and butter. However, I really enjoy playing all genres and getting creative with various textures.
Most of all, I really love creating and basing my choices off what the song is telling me to play. I enjoy collaborating and really giving the clients what they want! If there are any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Hit the contact button to reach out! I can't wait to work on your record!

This will be my second time working with Rob and I am again impressed with his ability. Rob is nothing but professional and an asset! Rob brought things to the table I wouldn't have thought of.
Rob was great to work with! He always responded quickly and was professional. Rob is a very talented drummer and was able to bring a lot of groove to my track and also hear my ideas. I would definitely work with him again!
Rob is one of the best drummers I have ever worked with on this platform, his skill and musicianship is unmatched. And he’s very friendly, professional and quick with his processes. Definitely recommend him.
I contacted Rob to write and track drums to two different songs for a longer-form project, and he worked professionally with me to craft awesome drum tracks for my songs. He delivered the performances quickly and efficiently, I highly recommend choosing Rob.
An excellent drummer, who serves the song, and puts his passion into every take he sends through. If your song needs a drummer, look no further than Rob, you cannot beat the tone, the rhythms, nor the professionalism that he brings!

Rob is an amazing drummer he is professional, Versatile and on point! He's great to work with. I will be using him in the future.
Rob did such an outstanding job with laying drums on my song. I provided him with a song with varying structures, and he delivered an awesome drum track that met and exceeded all of my expectations. He has great attention to detail, very quick and prompt, and is an excellent drummer. I definitely recommend him.
Rob came to the studio and was a pleasure to work with. Not only did he already have a strong grasp of all the songs from the start, but he was eager and willing to completely change his drum parts on the fly to whatever crazy (and poorly described) part that came to mind and made it sound better than I could have hoped. He stayed in the studio for the entire day, never being anything other than professional and personable. He easily made what could've been a stressful day easy and pleasant. I'd absolutely recommend Rob for any session recording you need, and I will likely be a repeat customer
Rob is the man, super easy to work with and listens to what you really want. I absolutely recommend him for any drum needs or any musical needs.
Rob came into my studio as a session drummer and really killed it the first time, so when my client wanted to retrack drums on another song, we knew exactly who to contact. Rob is incredibly skilled, but even better, he is creative and actively brings new ideas. Very professional attitude and very amicable.
Rob is the only drummer I ever want to play with. Ill say it to anyone who will listen - Rob Bulman is my favorite drummer. Precise and professional, Rob is effectively an asset to any project. Working with him is such a breeze. He consistently brings my songs to the next level. His dynamic control is unmatched, really pro rated feel. Whether you are looking for someone to build drums around your songs from scratch or just plug & play what you’ve already got, and I cannot stress this enough, Rob is your guy.
I’ve had the pleasure of performing on stage with Rob for countless shows - his energy & passion for his job is contagious! As his band leader, I can also vouch for his professionalism & dedication to the project. Rob is THE REAL DEAL.
To say this man is The best percussionist I have ever worked with in my 20 years being a touring musician just doesn’t cover it. He is the most technical in the pocket drummer I have ever had the pleasure to work with and hands down has made every gig we’ve played together for a better part of a year sound that much better. If you hire anyone else for session work you’ve made a mistake.
Rob wrote and performed drums for two records of mine. He is hands down one of the best drummers i’ve ever played with. He is creative, insanely tight, and somehow understands exactly what a song needs in an instant. Would recommend him to anybody for anything drum related.
I have hired Rob numerous times to accompany me on drums for shows. He is very professional. He is always on time, prepared and is always perfect with his execution on stage. He is an absolute pleasure to work with; effortless, incredible, and personable. I 10/10 recommend!
I hired Rob to do a track for me and what I got was beyond exceptional. He knew exactly what I wanted and improved what I already had. He was extremely professional and an overall joy to be around. Hire this man and you won’t ever need another drummer
I've worked with Rob in touring bands for over 2 years, and he is the absolute real deal. Professional, precise, and tasteful. He has knowledge in all genres, and can give your track exactly what it needs, not to mention, his drum tone is unmatched, in my humble opinion.
Rob is an incredible drummer to work with. Always professional and easy to get along with. Tight, precise drummer with great ideas to make your tracks POP.
Tight playing, creative, easy to work with, on time musically and otherwise. Rob is not only my favorite drummer but generally an absolute joy to work with and be around.
Interview with Rob Bulman
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “What is your turnaround time?" For in-studio sessions, I'm normally in and out in about 2-3 hours. At my home setup, I like to give myself a week while sending versions within it. I understand stuff happens, and I hate missing deadlines.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Thats TOUGH. I love all music all across the spectrum. If I had to choose, it would most likely be Bruce Springsteen. His songs and arrangements are top notch to me. You get to hit hard and rock out, but also feel like you're in a big band setting.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: It's a growing home studio more geared towards live drums. I have enough to record bands, but I'd rather just focus on my craft as a drummer and engineer for the songs. I have a 16 channel set up and a newly built live room with various mics.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: ASK QUESTIONS! And be as specific as you want! My goal is to make you happy!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is being aware of both the song and what my job in it is. Finding little details during the track to make other parts shine can be huge.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The Bother None record was super special to me. It was probably my most musical collection of songs to date. My role was to lay down the drums quickly so that the vocals, guitar, and bass had the most time possible to finish their work. It was a project that was just an idea, and now it lives and breathes.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Just finished a 10 song record with the band Bother None. I'm now in the mixing phase so that will have my attention. Also continuing to build my personal studio.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Luke Anderson is a great friend of mine. He's an amazing bass player who has shared the stage with multiple times.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for now. Thats just how everything in my house is at the moment. But more analog will be coming.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To give them exactly what's been in their head so they can feel happy and confident about their track!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to play drums! Whats better than that?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That it's an easy job. I just sit down, play, and send an email. But it's sooo much more than that. The amount of care that goes into it really turns everything into a process.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the bpm? Key? And do you have sheet music or a scratch I can go off of? Then I'll ask if there is any additional info I need to know about? (feel, tempo or time signature changes, etc.)
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Zildjian avedis 14' high hats, Meinl 21" ride, My C&C brass snare, kick and floor tom.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing when I was 3. Then all throughout elementary school. (Learning records and what not.) Got an education with reading sheet music in middle school and competed at a high level in high school. My passion was leading me to playing full time and that's what I do now. I've been a full time drummer for three years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Versatile. I'm hard hitting when needed, but also very dynamic and cautious. I can shed out, or just stay in the pocket forever.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to get your instrument to sound as good as possible without plugins. If your base is taken care of, then the rest of the process is really enjoyable.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually rock. But recently it's been indie, folk and country tunes!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a level of professionalism and care to the song. I believe having a great groove and tasteful parts to allow the guitars or vocals to shine is paramount. I guess you could say I wrap the whole idea of the song up and make it tangible.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually I'll listen to the song to understand the structure. Then I'll have two or three ideas or "roads" we could go down. From there, I'll explain what I was thinking or collaborate with the artist on what they want. (Usually they have a good idea of the feel and leave the fills up to me.)
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Will Yip from Studio 4 has put out some of my favorite records to date. His producing skills are off the charts! Other than that, I really admire session guys like Aaron Sterling, Carter McLean, and Paul Mabury just to name a few. Not only are these guys awesome at what they do, but fantastic educators as well.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Adding drums (or percussion) to a song that needs it.
