Interview with Gourab
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Aggressive and Warm, Clean
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How do you want me to send the song? As I said previously, I like one set of stems wet, one set dry, and the current bounce you've been listening to.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make sure to record in a room filled with soft furnishings—rugs, couches, and heavy curtains all help reduce unwanted room sound in your vocal recordings.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to say that I bring warmth, depth, width and a polished, high-end feel that makes the record sound expensive.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m a big fan of Jaycen Joshua and Josh Gudwin as far as mixers. To me they are the best at bringing a song to life.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, Hybrid Mixing is Important
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You'll get the best polished version of your track
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I can do magic. It's hard to make a bad recording sound like a great mix. So I always try to be upfront with people what I can actually do with the source material provided.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: RME Babyface Pro FS , Beyerdynamic DT 1990
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock , Pop , Hip-Hop
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Listen to the song like a fan first. As a mixing and mastering engineer, it's important to grasp the technical aspects—but if the song truly moves you, that emotional connection takes precedence over everything else.
