I'm an experienced guitar player and singer UK blues band the Mentulls and UK country singer Hayley Mckay. I have produced some of Hayley's music. Recent gigs - A New Day Festival, Country to Country festival (O2 Arena, London) and the Sage, Gateshead as well as shows in Luxembourg and Holland. I perform solo and have my own studio running Logic.

I have a first class honours degree from Edinburgh and 5 years teaching experience in schools, colleges and also 15 years live experience. I'm 26 but have been playing on stage since 11. I tour regularly doing around 120 shows a year. I Have some experience as a recording session player as well.
- I'm an accomplished singer and again have perform professionally for 15 years and recorded albums with The Mentulls and for myself. I'm great at coming up with Melodies and Lyrics.
- I have a home studio set up and loads of different instruments. I can play guitar, piano, mandolin, bass, harmonica, banjo and basically anything with strings.
- I'm a songwriter and can help with arrangement, melodies or harmonisation specifically with a project. I love Americana and blues music but also really enjoy working in pop/rock fields. My own music is for fans of Sting, John Mayer. I can compose whole songs or backing tracks for clients all from my home studio. I run Logic and have apresonus desk and soundcard. I have nice studio 1 mics and rode mics.

Interview with David Neil Crabtree
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment I'm in the studio for the new Mentulls Album and I'm preparing to go on the road with them in Spring. I also have my own record coming out this year. That and some library music work.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: variety and the challenge of doing different projects to broaden my experience and knowledge.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Can you define your expectations.. What are you trying to achieve with this track project.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get in touch and talk to the provider, I like to know people a bit if we are working together. It's nice to get on with your colleagues isn't it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: guitar, capo, pick, harmonica, spare strings...
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Been playing on stage 15 years. I have a 1st class degree and am a full time musician. I also teach guitar.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My production is contemporary but rooted in the stuff I love which is often older (Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Paul Simon). I try to keep my prod techniques up to date.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: John Mayer - I think we would come up with something beautiful. We play play guitar and sing and he has been a huge inspiration.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Not too many parts. Make sure what you have is great and work on each part until it is. Don't just fill sonic space with ok stuff.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: pop, rock, country, blues, americana, soul, library music, folk etc..
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: - Vocal ability and guitar ability, I can listen to anything and play it back straight away.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to bring a different angle to a song. I have a great ear for arrangement and parts, particularly guitar parts. If you are looking for something a little bit left field or less obvious for your project then get in touch. Like wise I like to thing that I can give a song what in needs so I never like to over/under play something.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a Mac with Logic 10 and presonus desk and presonus audio interface. I have great mics and lovely amps (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and a Blackstart MK11). I have loads of great guitars and keyboards etc.. Everything you need to make a lovely sounding record.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by people like Ryan Tedder who are releasing their own material but also working with loads of other people. That's what I want to do.
