Interview with SCORE SQUAD

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Dynamic Elegance, a production music album for Warner PM, was released in late 2023. This album is a testament to collaboration and innovation, where I, as the project manager, played a pivotal role. Involved in every aspect from composition to production, I guided the creation process of each song, conceptualizing themes, and providing direction to our talented singers and songwriters. Additionally, as the sound engineer, I meticulously handled the mixing and mastering of the album, ensuring each track resonated with clarity and impact. With a fusion of electronic elements, driving drums, distorted guitars and orchestral arrangements, the album embodies a cohesive vision, perfectly tailored for the 'Automotive, Technology, Futuristic Car Commercials' and similar genres. It truly represents the best of all worlds from our entire production team and bears our unique signature.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: At present, we're engaged in multiple projects. Among them is the production of an album centered on the European Football Championship 2024, comprising roughly 12 tracks for Universal PM. Furthermore, we're tasked with crafting the sound design for an image reel for Bosch.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: We opt for digital. Our use of top-tier analog simulation plugins is vital in today's advertising scene. The digital method provides a streamlined, efficient workflow that meets the rigorous demands of the advertising sector. Moreover, contemporary analog plugins faithfully replicate the authentic sound, enhancing our production quality.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Timeliness, unwavering commitment to each project, transparent feedback, and fulfilling our commitments.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Creativity. We delight in commencing each project with a blank canvas, sketching, painting, and ultimately producing a purposeful piece of art. Moreover, we find fulfillment in engaging with our clients and ensuring their satisfaction.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: „How much time and what is the cost involved in a music production?“ Typically, the expenses for a music production revolve around two primary factors: labor and licensing fees. Our labor costs are determined by clearly outlined daily rates. However, the actual timeframe and effort invested in the project can vary based on its specific requirements and complexity. Similarly, licensing fees are contingent upon the extent of usage and whether the client seeks exclusive or non-exclusive rights. For instance, licensing for an internal promotional video tends to be more economical compared to that for a global TV campaign with exclusive rights. Nevertheless, these particulars can be thoroughly discussed and tailored to each individual project in consultation with the client.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: We encompass more than composers, musicians, or music producers. Our team extends to include sound designers, audio engineers, mix and mastering engineers, alongside creative and strategic thinkers with expertise in marketing. This holistic approach empowers us to provide comprehensive support for each project, from its inception to the final advertising campaign.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: We like to find out what music they like and ask them for reference tracks to make sure we deliver the right sound! This is by far the most important thing!

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: We are strictly working with professional artists & agencies. So we expect the same level of professionalism and passion for the project as we are offering to you.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: Our team comprises individuals with diverse musical origins. Some of us were immersed in Hip-Hop and RnB from an early age, honing our skills with the MPC and collaborating with numerous rap artists, while also crafting our own rap lyrics. Others received a classical music education, beginning piano and cello training at the age of 5 due to our parents' involvement in orchestras. Furthermore, our team includes members with backgrounds in indie, skate-punk, reggae, funk, and soul. Collectively, we bring decades of musical expertise to the table, and it is this rich blend of influences that defines the unique sound of SCORE SQUAD.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: The SCORE SQUAD style encompasses a fusion of cinematic scoring with urban elements drawn from various contemporary pop genres. The balance between these styles is tailored to the specific project and the desired genre.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: There are so many talented and interesting artists, and each collaboration inspires us anew, regardless of the artist's level of fame. Of course, we would love to collaborate with music legends in the realms of film score, soul, jazz, and pop, to learn from their tricks and skills, and to draw inspiration from them.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Keep it simple and authentic. Often, the first idea that comes to mind is the best one.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: We typically work on a wide spectrum of music genres, including urban, (electro) pop, hip-hop, trap, house, cinematic, and hybrid orchestral. Our expertise spans across these diverse styles, allowing us to cater to various project needs and client preferences with precision and creativity.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Our greatest strength lies in our versatility. We excel at producing and delivering high-quality products under pressure and within tight deadlines. With our extensive experience in the advertising industry, we possess the insight into the sounds and styles necessary to effectively engage specific customer demographics.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: We offer over 20 years of expertise in music production, specializing in broadcast, television, and new media formats such as commercials and ads. Our extensive experience, coupled with the distinctive sound aesthetics of SCORE SQUAD, ensures the perfect sonic match for your project or client. Additionally, our team's diverse backgrounds spanning genres like Rock, Classical, Urban, Hip Hop, and Pop allow us to authentically incorporate various perspectives and production methods into every genre.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: Our typical workflow begins with a thorough discussion of the project, conducted either before the filming or editing of the advertisement/trailer/reel. During these discussions, we delve into the musical direction, target audience, brand essence, and optimal brand representation. We initiate the process with an initial sketch, which serves as our starting point for further refinement. For jingles and advertisements, we prioritize crafting a memorable melody, recognizing its pivotal role in brand recognition. If a jingle isn't catchy enough, it doesn't meet our standards. We then visualize and determine the production's trajectory before diving in. When developing complete songs, we often commence with a piano and basic chords to establish the song's mood and momentum. For urban and rhythm-driven tracks, we may begin with drums or a groove, gradually layering other instruments that complement the rhythm. Throughout the production phase, we collaborate closely, with tracks circulated within the team for feedback and enhancement. Arrangements are enriched with elements such as bass, guitar, or orchestral components, ensuring a cohesive sound. Finally, each project undergoes meticulous mixing and mastering, tailored to suit the requirements of the intended medium. We remain committed to accommodating any revisions until our clients are fully satisfied.

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: SCORE SQUAD offers a unique sound influenced by esteemed composers such as Hans Zimmer, Audiomachine, and 2wei, embracing a cinematic style. Additionally, we draw inspiration from electronic music luminaries like Moderat, The Glitch Mob, Maribou State, and Two Lanes, blending diverse elements to create our signature sound.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: We specialize in crafting tailor-made music projects for diverse brands across different industries, with a primary focus on commercials, advertisements, and image reels. Additionally, we excel in sound design and continuously strive to broaden our music catalog.
