Joel Pinteric

Podcast Editor, Audio Producer

Creative and Tailored Audio approach to Podcasts, Sound Editing and Sound Design

Hi there, I have been engineering sound and audio for around a decade now. From freelance projects in film (Sound Editing, Sound Design and Mix) to Music Production and Mixing, as well as precise and careful Audio Restoration. I am passionate about great sound and to suit it to the right listening environments. Send me a message to see what I can help you with.

Podcasts - Podcasts are more than just an audio clip. I can enhance your audio so that the levels are balanced, with engaging, clear and concise speech, as well as reducing noise. For extra jingles or music, I can apply a unique approach to Sonic Branding to create the right feel for your podcast! The pace and quality of the speech will be improved.

Audio Restoration - I have often been facinated by sound spectra, and that has led me to often use spectrum analysis for a more objective approach to sound design. With this I can bring advanced noise reduction, wind/rustle and click removal and greatly restore the quality of the audio.

Interview with Joel Pinteric

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: I'll answer in terms of what audio engineers do. Generally the misconception is that 'bad recordings' can be 'improved', when the microphone was too far away from the source. As technology advances, especially over the last decade, new tools have been developed to truly reduce extraneous sounds, noise and reverb and improve the product initially. This means workflows and values have shifted in a faster paced industy that wants instant results. But the truth is that audio will always benefit more from carefully engineered recording, acoustics and mixing, vs. taking shortcuts. Sound is very organic.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I really enjoy engineering audio to sound amazing, clear and concise. Creating and shaping a pleasant listening experience. I enoy doing this with great sound editing, and then mixing it so you want to hear it loud. Ultimately, the reaction from clients that they really enjoy listening and find it moving and inspiring.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Send me a message and we can talk from there. I love hearing new ideas and answering any questions.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I have been working on freelance projects for several years now. I started in my own home studio, recording and experimenting with synthesizer, sampled sounds and voice over. With talent for signal processing, I began working with films, recording dialogue on set and understanding the creative process from various crew perspectives. Finally I worked in various aspects of audio post-production, from sound editing, creative sound design, mixing and mastering. Where possible, I encourage the client to consider sound in pre-rpoduction, as David Sonnenschein recommends. The creative process and the directors vision can be approached in many ways.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: Iterative. I tend to finalize projects in 2 - 3 layers, that involves listening back at later time to bypass any ear fatigue. It's also creative and tailored to your goals, with critical listening ability. I am very considerate and analytical of good practices such as loudness and mixing.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: It starts with the sound source, so if you're recording, be sure to place the microphone in the best position and space. Ensure the vocals, instrument or sound is recorded clear and loud, but without clipping distortion. If you're working with samples, make sure the samples are high quality too, are not noisey and sound good to your preference.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I have an Acoustic Treated setup - KRK Rokit 8" Monitors on stands, PreSonus AudioBox iTwo for 2-Channel Recording - 2x Mic inputs and simple monitoring, iMac Retina 4K, Dual Screen, Novation Mk II MIDI Controller, Audio Technican & Beyerdynamic Headphones. Logic X and KOMPLETE-12 Suite of Studio Quality Processors. I have a range of Microphones including the Rode Podcaster for simple and direct Voice Over recording.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I have been commended for my great listening skill. Being able to listen to different frequencies in a sound takes practice and is valuable in all sound engineering.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: Every project is unique. For creative projects, your final product can be optimized with Pre-production phase where I ask some essential questions and then brainstorming towards a better solution.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: Sound Edtiting, Sound Design, Audio Restoration and Mixing
