Interview with Lauren
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone with experience obviously but also someone who has invested both time and money into their craft (eg. university, music equipment etc) This indicates professionalism as well as passion and dedication.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been singing since I can remember. I taught vocal and theatre classes at an amateur level since the age of 16/17. I played leading roles in several musicals and touring shows from a young age and performed in many cover and original bands throughout my life (singing lead and backing vocals). I did a BA in Commercial Modern Music where I specialised in Vocals, and studied many aspects of commercial music including recording, performance, music theory, styles and techniques etc.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: RnB, Soul, Pop but I am not limited to any specific genre. I pride myself on my versatility and my ability adapt to (almost) any style.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a powerful voice and possess the ability to belt, and to use vibrato if appropriate. When requested I can share my creative input and like to assist in writing lines, such as harmonies, bvs etc.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Attitude, rawness, conviction and personality.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I am quick to learn a track but I always try to listen to the song multiple times to learn it inside out, then I sing along with the track a couple of times. I love putting my own take on a song and giving it my stamp , unless i'm required to stick rigidly to certain tequnies or a certain style in which case I can do that too.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Billie Eilish - in terms of attitude and performance. In terms of technique and ability: Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce. When it comes to belting and chest voice I also take a lot of inspiration from musical theatre vocalists eg. Idina Menzel
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Session Vocals - mainly Pop/RnB songs, I have lots of experience singing ad music and jingles and also experience with writing top lines, lyrics, ad libs, harmonies, bvs etc
