Pro in vocal melodies, catchy hooks, Song-writing and music production. Specialised in the following Genres: Pop, EDM (Topliner) & Hiphop/Trap

My name is Ruud van Schaik. I'm litterly a vst plug-in. A vocal Artist and producer to the core. Did a feature on Moksi's Album "Return of the house music" The song called: Find my Light. Did music Production work for Eva simons, song title: The one. A song with Gabriel And Castellon - Going up, that got supported by Dj Tiesto. And ofcourse more music you can find on my Spotify. Nowadays i keep developing and working with talented high end producers, songwriters and engineers to make the best final product possible. It started with making noises from my mouth and expanded to professional beatboxing (Rudebeats) soon. It also didn't take too long before i started writing my own lyrics, making beats and record myself with my voice and guitar on the computer. I have a lot of experience with writing songs, (vocal) producing & engineering. It all started in 2001 when i was 14, and never imagined that i would be turning 3 chairs at the Voice of Holland and be a part of big songs like: Buscando huellas by Major Lazer (The guitar you hear in that song, i played it) & Colorblind by Diplo Feat. Lil xan (my voice in the background)

The process for vocals:
1: I record a demo with melodies/topline
2: If the topline/melody is approved i start writing the lyrics
3: I send you a demo
4: If approved i send the stems and we proceed to the payment of the fee
5: We discuss the split

I’ve had the pleasure to work with RAiK multiple times now. Each and every time he delivered more than I could have possibly asked for!
We collaborated on some projects on which RAiK recorded vocals, as well as play guitar. He works super quick and knows what the track needs.
Super happy with the results so far as I feel like my tracks have become a lot better. I have recommended RAiK to multiple producer buddies and will definitely continue to do so!

RAik.. One of those guys who can do it all. He alway shas a clear sense and vision for what is needed within a track and has all of the resources to make some magic happen. From singing, rapping, beatboxing, production, mixing.. It's all in this one man. He works fast, keeps it very professional, but he also cares for vibe and keeps the energy light and fun and is also able to shift into whatever the moment asks for. Always a pleasure working together. Don't miss out on this genius!

Interview with RAiK

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: That I deliver what they desire. And most important I deliver on time.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: My participation in the song "Color Blind" by Diplo feat. Lil Xan. It's just mind-blowing to realize millions of people are hearing my voice in the song all around the world (I sang some backings and helped with making the drop/melody and midi drum-groove. It's a bit closer to my dream. My dream is to make a melody that is timeless and can be remixed or covered over a million times and decades for billions of people who can experience the same joy and healing as I do. Because they all deserve it.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: At the moment I'm working on my next single and an Ep. Also working on some side projects with DJ's, artists, and fellow producers.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Yes, Romy Dya is a singer/topliner I would highly recommend to my clients.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Digital. Since i started producing it was on my computer with reason 2.0. So if I said analog it's not true. But my voice, guitar and synthesizers are analog...and I love to use these instruments in my productions.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: THE FREEDOM! and not being attached to a 9 to 5 job (nothing wrong with it if you like your job of course). Meeting a lot of new people and expanding my network every day is an amazing extra that comes with working as a professional musician.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Most of the time they ask me if I can lay down some vocals or a topline on their productions. And if I can write some nice lyrics to it. My answer is. Of course, I can do this for you. Let me know if you have any ideas about what type of feeling it needs. Send me a reference or if not let me see what I can do for you to make it sound exactly the way you want it to be.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: People who try to put me in a box. Because I do a lot of different things when it comes to music. I don't know why but a lot of times they try to say like "No, you are just a good singer" while the other says "No you are just a good producer, not a songwriter" while the other person says: "Just keep it at production".."that's your strength". And sometimes they say..." wow amazing you've got so much talent" But just stick to 1 style. aha kinda funny because the people I work with and who don't know me that well as a person love to work with me because I'm a chameleon. I can change the way of using my voice on a certain song. I'm all about moods and variety. So the biggest misconception about me is trying to understand why you can't put me in a box.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Is there a specific story behind the song? What emotion did you feel when creating it and if you have an example of a reference track that would be great but not really necessary if you don't know. I will definitely find a way. And last but not least. Are there any specific Spotify playlists that you are aiming for with this song?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Hire me now to give your song or production that extra sauce that gives it the right taste so everyone will like it and wants more of it and can't get enough of it. I definitely won't disappoint you!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: - My mouth (doesn't count but is probably my most advanced piece of gear:) - My voice (doesn't; count, same story as my mouth) 1: Macbook 2: Apollo Twin 3: Taylor Guitar 4: Micro Korg 5: Condensor mic

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been making music for almost 20 years now. I started as a beatboxer. After 6 years I started to beatbox professionally for a living and traveled the whole world with my gear. Soon I implemented a loop station, guitar, and microkorg to my show. And started singing at the age of 23 (7 years later). this whole journey made me the all-round artist, producer, songwriter and musician who I am today.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My Style is Organic, Deep, and meaningful. Also fun, danceable, and uplifting when it needs to be. Even though sometimes I make heavy and dark-ish stuff, there always still is a sort of hopeful feeling in the end. So I won't leave you alone in the dark. We can go there, but I'll definitely pull you out to find a better place! My music is healing.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Pharrell Wiliams. He inspires me as a person and of course, his music is amazing. His styles go from funk to hip-hop to pop to soul. But you can always hear it's made by him because he sings on it (or a Hoo or hey, yeh in the background..LOVE IT!).

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Keep it clean. find the right sounds that fit perfectly to the song before you start tweaking and freaking on something that needs too much tweaking...KEEP IT FRESH and simple.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Mostly Pop music, singer-songwriter with a Hip-hop/Trappy Edge. But my toplines and voice are very reliable for EDM too.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Making an idea really fast out of nowhere. I can basically come up with a melody or beatbox rhythm and build a whole song around it in no time. I don't need so much to make music to be honest. I think that's my strongest skill.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Ohh another really good question :) I bring loads of flavor to a song, a catchy hook that you won't get out of your mind. one day a friend called me "Captain Hook" hehe. And I always add a deeper layer to the song. I do all kind of stuff with my voice that almost sounds like instruments. That fills up the spaces where needed perfectly.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: When a client sends me a composition or beat I first try to feel the emotion as much as possible, so I can really dive into the world of the song. Then I come up with melodies. These melodies i record and sometimes they already have lyrics. Then I think of a concept that's made up in the hook or chorus. After this, I fill in the words that fit perfect to the song. And if I start from out of nothing it can be all kinds of ways. Sometimes from a beatbox rhythm and bass, sometimes from a vocal melody i record on my phone and after produce the song. Or I make songs with my guitar or behind the keys.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My Studio Setup is quite simple. But I got everything I need to record HQ vocals. I got a good condenser microphone (akg perception 200) Apollo twin thunderbolt interface and of course an amazing sounding pre-amp. The Warm Audio Tonebeast TB12. And a good pair of ears! All the mix and mastering i do in a different studio with my engineer. And ofcourse my Macbook with Logic X and the right amount of waves and UAD plug-ins.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Oeh! that's a good question. Sound in general really inspires me, I hear music everywhere. That is why I started beatboxing since I was 14 probably. When it comes to musical artists. Legends like Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Jay Dillah, Prince, Dr. Dre, some Old soul classics, Johnny Cash, and I listen to a lot of Low BPM house music or Lo-fi Hiphop to set the mood in my living room. Although you won't always directly hear this in my sound. I'm very variable when it comes to flirting with different styles. Artists who inspire me from nowadays: Post Malone, Metro boomin, Doja cat, 21savage, Ben Howard, Rosalia and many more.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Most of the times i deliver vocals or toplines and I write the lyrics. Sometimes I also sell beats.
