Joel Stewart on SoundBetter

I'm an experienced recording artist/songwriter/vocalist from London. I am proud to have gained over 8 million Spotify / Apple Music streams since my debut single in 2019. Together we can bring your music to life. Let's make something amazing!

I have always been a music lover, and I am fortunate enough to call my passion my career. I love every step in making records. From songwriting and production, to the creative idea and branding that accompanies releases. It's all important and it all deserves attention.

In the past 2 years, I have gained over 7 million Spotify streams, and worked with lots of amazing artists. In the past year I have collaborated with Seeb, Lonely in the Rain, Luca, Arinity, to name a few. I have also written & recorded at Abbey Road Studios for Globe (Film & TV division of Universal Music Group). I truly love working on music, and would love to collaborate on your music. I am available for hire to record vocals and for songwriting (as well as acoustic demo tracks). I like to work hard, and give each project I work on the time, and creativity it deserves. I love writing songs and I would love to help you on any projects you may have!

I aim to provide excellent communication, and pay strict attention to detail. I am ready and prepared to go the extra mile to make sure you get exactly what you want for your project.

Interview with Joel Stewart

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I was approached by Abbey Road Masters to write 6 songs that would soundtrack future film/tv releases. Its as an amazing experience which gave me the opportunity to record in Abbey Road Studios, alongside some of the most talented session musicians in the world. The 6 songs have been released as an EP through Globe (the Film and TV division of Universal Music).

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on a number of different projects right now. I am writing and recording my own EP, along with writing top lines/providing vocals for artists: Seeb, Sivv, Jerro, Alex Baker and Slowtide.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I am ready and prepared to go the extra mile to make sure you get exactly what you want for your project. I promise we won't stop until we get to that point.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Being able to create every day.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Guitar Notepad Fishing Rod Lifetime supply of Bait Match's to light a campfire I'd be very happy.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I released my debut single in 2019, and for 2 years only worked on my own music, playing live most nights a week in London to make a living. When COVID cancelled all gigs, I began working as a freelance songwriter. I have now worked on over 300 projects and songs with artists and brands. This has lead to so many amazing experiences, the best being recording an EP at Abbey Road with Universal Music.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: clever, catchy, but not cheesy.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) would be my number 1 choice. He is the reason I first started playing guitar.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I have worked on lots of dance music (house, EDM, techno), and absolutely love it! The music I release myself is more singer songwriter, but I love to sing on all types of music.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I would say it's the ability to come up with clever vocal melodies, that allows my voice to show what it can do; and lyrics that keep the listener intrigued.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I like to think I can help to make a song sound individual and unique. I always think the most important thing is for the song to be catchy, but not cheesy. It's a fine line, and I always work hard to make sure it is never crossed.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: My work process is structured. I try to work 8am - 6pm, 5 Days a week, but, of course, put in the extras hours and some weekend work when it is necessary. I love it.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I love my studio. I have a fully equipped home studio, in the basement room. It has been fully soundproofed, and is kitted out with my selection of gear that keeps on growing. I record all my vocals on a Lauten LA320 large-diaphragm capacitor mic. This runs through a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 (3rd Gen), into a Macbook Pro 2020. I work in Logic, and can send the project file; or send individual stems. I have a number of amps for my guitars, which consist of a Ibanez Acoustic; Fender Strat; Ozark Resonator; Unbranded Classical; Vintage Columbus Cherry Red

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: 5 people that inspire me in the music industry are: Justin Vernon (Bon Iver, Big Red Machine); Dermot Kennedy; Nick Mulvey; Dijon; Ben Howard.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Write lyrics, vocal melody, and provide professional vocal stems (including ad lib, and harmony parts). I also write full songs from scratch based on a brief/idea/theme from the client. I can provide anything from a demo recording, to a professionally recorded, mixed, and mastered track.
