Endorse Francesco PetrelliInterview with Francesco Petrelli
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Depends. I like to record with analog gear, but digital is awesome because It saves you a lot of time and now, in 2020, it sounds great, almost like analog.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your favourite production?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, headphones, microphone, UAD Apollo, Guitar
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Power is the answer
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Green Day because I love them and I love their music
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: SSL Bus compressor on Instrumental bus, cut 3-4 db when the snare hits
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Drum sound, I love drums expecially snare drum. Snare is my lighthouse in a mix. It has to be always there but it doesn't dominate in the mix.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process is listening to the song or references uninterrupted and feeling the vibe. I then make some internal notes on what I can do and how I feel I can bring the track to the next level. I want to add my vibe and skill to the track while keeping the original artists vision. It's a collaborative effort! Teamwork makes the Dreamwork!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in the box. I have also some outboard equipment like SSL G Bus Compressor and Wa76 that I usually use, but I love working in the box. I have been a Logic Audio user for 20 years, and I also like to use Pro Tools and Cubase. I have a UAD Apollo soundcard and I LOVE UAD and their plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I love rock and metal music. Chris-Lord-Alge is my hero, all his production are a reference for me.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing, Mastering, and Production work. I have had many clients want only a mix and master at first, but then I also end up assisting them with additional production on their track to take it to the next level.
