Brendan Gone Mixing/Mastering on SoundBetter

Producer, engineer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter with over 10 years of experience. Over 5M in overall streams from records I have mixed and mastered.

As a musician myself, my main objective is always to make the song shine. Programming, instrumentation, sounds, and arrangement all exist to serve the song as a whole and to display the artist in the best possible.

Based in Los Angeles and I love all parts of the music creating process from production to engineering and mixing. I look forward to hearing what you're working on and how I can help fulfill your vision.

Interview with Brendan Gone Mixing/Mastering

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Look up "Ktlynraps" on TikTok. She had only a few hundred monthly listeners a year ago and after I produced/mixed/wrote a majority of her released songs, her following skyrocketed. I am especially proud of her!

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I do not, unfortunately. trying to network with more of you guys on here!

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: both. Each give their own character, so depends on the situation / what the client is looking for

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise that I will be responsive, open-minded, and dedicated to getting your job completed in a timely manner.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I do what I love

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Customer: what's the cheapest you'll go for a mix? My answer: how good do you want the mix to sound?

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: it takes more than presets to really nail down a mix. Everyone asks for my presets, and they are a great starting point, but to take a mix to the next level, you need to know how to process each track depending on the elements surrounding them. (It will be different every time!)

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: How well do you know your sound? How do you prefer to work? What's your definition of [whatever job you need me to do]-ing look like? Where can I best be of assistance to you?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: make sure that you find the right person that can bring your vision to life. I've been in this game long enough to say that going the cheapest route might have consequences later down the road. Treat your art as an investment!

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: 1. TLM 103 2. rocket krk's 3. apollo twin 4. macbook pro 5. solar powered charging station

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I have been making music since the 4th grade, moved to Los Angeles 5 years ago and making music professionally ever since

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Heavy hip hop influence, beautiful melodies, experimental, and 808s that will blow out your sub

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Kanye. Because he continues to push the boundaries of modern music and what the fans are "expecting." I am inspired by his confidence to experiment

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: many young producers don't utilitze the multiband compressors enough when mixing vocals. It's been a trick i've realized was so helpful to tame the mud out of vocals. and saturation

  30. A: primarily hip hop, pop, and pop-punk, but I have worked on records in the folk, edm, and indie rock genres as well

  32. A: My strongest skill is vocal production and creating melodies/harmonies

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: As a fan of Rock and Roll, Blues, Dubstep, Death Metal, Folk, Hip Hop, EDM, as well as Classical, I add an experimental take on modern day hip hop and pop

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: BUSINESS WISE: 1. I prefer to set goals with my clients in the following areas: Where are they in the process of completing their song? Where are the areas that they feel most confident in? (songwriting? drums? melodies?) etc. 2. Set deliverables and confirm dates the final version needs to be completed. 3. Plan accordingly and set check-in dates. CREATIVELY: 1. I prefer an open-minded work process from both myself as well as the other parties. 2. I love experimenting and pushing boundaries in both production as well as mixing

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I work out of a studio in sherman oaks, CA. It is a fully treated room with pioneer monitors, apollo twin interface, recording with an Avalon VT 737 preamp, on a TLM 103 microphone. DAWs are primarily Ableton and Logic

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: Mike Dean, Alex Tumay, Dave Pensado, Kanye, Kendrick, Andre 3000, Pusha T, Louis Armstrong

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
