Need to polish up your vocal track? Is your performance missing that "wow factor"? Today's radio-ready sound requires a lot of behind-the-scenes processing, and if you want your song to compete you need to work with someone who knows ALL the tricks.
I am a professional vocal editor from Nashville who has 5+ years of experience editing vocals for top country and pop songwriters. My clients pitch their songs to A&R heads at major record labels in Nashville, L.A. and beyond. I am new to this website, but I typically spend my days taking demo vocals from untouched to ready to impress a publisher or record label in just a matter of hours. When you walk into a meeting, you need to feel confident that your song sounds just as good as what's on the charts today, and vocal that has been tuned, time adjusted, and tastefully effected can give you that Top 40 sound that gets attention.
I have produced tracks that have appeared in TV shows such as “Switched At Birth” (Freeform Network), "Greek" (ABC Family), "Ten Things I Hate About You" (ABC Family), "Make It Or Break It" (ABC Family), and "The City" (MTV) as well as the feature film The Darkest Hour (Fox).
Are you a Country Artist? I can tweak a raw singer songwriter vocal to sound polished, but still honest and natural.
Are you a Pop Artist? I can give you those long reverb hits, delay layers, and vocoder tracks to take your production to the next level.
Do you make beats? Want to create your own vocal sample library to inspire your future tracks? I can create a bank of chops, warps, and reverb layers from your own vocal file for you to re-sample all year long.

Interview with Kate L. Malone
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what I do is that an automatic pitch correction tool can replace targeted pitch adjustment by a professional.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never stop learning.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on country artists, pop artists, and singer/songwriter music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say my strongest skill is understanding how to edit vocals from a singer's point of view. I am a vocalist myself, and that helps me to know the difference between what is a stylistic choice on a singer's part and what's just a weak note. Anyone can just lock everything to a pitch or time grid, but that would destroy a lot of what makes a performance unique. "Artistic Correction" is key.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I clean up the vocal performance while maintaining the magic that's already there. Many vocal performances you hear on the radio are actually demo vocals that captured a special energy that could not be recreated on another recording day.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I create demos of songs written by pop and country songwriters to pitch to labels and publishers. In Nashville, your demo has to sound just as good as what's already on the radio to prove that it can be successful at radio. People want to hear a track that competes at the highest level with what's already out.
