Kate L. Malone is a Nashville-based producer, songwriter and studio owner with 15+ years of experience building tracks for top country, pop and indie songwriters.
Kate is also the author of "CUT: A Modern Guide to Professional Recording Logistics, Productive Collaboration, and Creative Psychology," a practical new guide designed to help independent artists navigate the professional recording and songwriting process with greater confidence, clarity, and creative control (available on Amazon).
Kate has written and produced tracks that have appeared on Top 40 radio in both the US and Canada as well as many TV shows -- “Switched At Birth” (Freeform Network), "Greek" (ABC Family), "Ten Things I Hate About You" (ABC Family), "Make It Or Break It" (ABC Family), and "The City" (MTV) as well as the feature film The Darkest Hour (Fox).
Kate also partnered with Splice to launch Splice Country in 2025 and has contributed several audio sample packs to the site (Nashville Essentials I and II, Country Grit, Southern Gothic, #YEEDM, and Country Vocals with Stephen Carey).

Interview with Kate L. Malone
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on country, pop, indie, and singer/songwriter music. I'm truly a music lover of all genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say my strongest skill is understanding the psychological aspects of productive collaboration as well as the logistical ones. I just published a book on this topic called "CUT: A Modern Guide to Professional Recording Logistics, Productive Collaboration, and Creative Psychology" that does a deep dive into this topic, and is a great read for developing songwriters! Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Producing records is one part project manager, one part creative visionary and one part therapist.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been producing music for 15 years and I specialize in independent artist development. I started my career in artist management and transitioned into the creative side to work more closely with rising songwriters and help creatives grow faster at an earlier phase in their career.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I love songwriters who like to push the boundaries of genre and combine elements in new and interesting ways.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I write with country artists and produce songs for other country songwriters. In Nashville, your track has to sound just as good as what's already on the radio to prove that it can be successful at radio. People want to hear a track that competes at the highest level with what's already out.

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Always include a worktape so the producer can hear the starting point of your song. Don't worry about quality...we're trained to hear past that!

A: Never stop learning.
