Started as a guitarist and singer, played in several bands both amateur and professional. Sung in a choir, played in some amateur live rock and metal bands as well as in professional party band and performed on several audio gear fairs & events. Then moved forward to the professional music production, songwriting, arranging & session playing. I have experience with wide range of genres from smooth jazz to extreme metal.
Audio Engineer:
Fascinated by the sound and the techniques how to get it right I started working as a professional audio engineer. I'm endlessly developing my skills in all areas of audio engineering. Interview with JAREK MUSIL
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I have so many musicians and producers who inspire me... I really love contemporary country artists, smooth Jazz musicians as well as rock veterans and extreme and progressive metal heroes. Sorry the list is too long.. And the worst think... I find new ones every single day!!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It´s about people, not the gear!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and metal mostly, but I really want to start produce and mix Smooth jazz music or contemporary country music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Music arrangements, patience, attention to detail. And I am nice :)
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Im always searching for a distinctive sound for every band and distinctive feel to every song. Since Im experienced arranger and have very wide musical range, I can arrange every song pretty different while preserve consistency and the footprint of the whole album.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have pretty minimalistic workstation in my home studio, where I do all the music productions, arranging, mixing and mastering. For tracking bands I work in several studios and always choose the right one for every single band. It all depends on goals of the band. Different tracking technology calls for different kind of studio. And the budget is also the case, haha.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do is music arranging and mixing. It goes like: "Hey Jarek! We have a song recorded in rehearsal and want to improve the song to sound like XXX". So I grab the song, do some major arrangements like re-write drums, re-arrange guitars and solos, add some keyboards/samples and improve the vocal lines. Then I send a demo of the arranged song and the band re-record it and send me back for mixing and mastering. Voila, from crap to platinum! :)
