Interview with Frank Louis
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I honestly don't care. I just want to make good music at the end of the day.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: If I have any doubts, I won't take the job. If I do take the job, then you're going to get what you came for.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Seeing people react to what I create.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I think the biggest misconception about what I do is that people tend to think it's a lot easier than it looks, because I MAKE it look easy. But the reality is that I've just put in the 10,000 hours to master my craft. Like anything else, if you find what you love to do, it's no longer work. It's just a part of life.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you envision this sounding like when it's done? Do you have any examples that you can provide of something that inspires what you're looking to achieve?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: If you're considering hiring me for your project, just know that I can be a perfectionist. I want to make sure it's right!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd like to work with creative people who really have something to say and aren't afraid to say it.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't be afraid to be unique. Learn the rules so that you can break them. Generic advice but very true.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on Top 40 type music for recording artist clients, and for film and tv I work in cinematic/orchestral blends and fusions.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to see the end result before it's complete, and then get us there.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I literally build songs from scratch to completion. Concept > Production > writing > recording > mixing > mastering.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically like to go with what feels right if I'm working on my own projects. When working with clients I tend to try to bring their vision to life by asking lots of questions to understand what sound they are going for.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work that I do for clients includes music production, composing, and songwriting.
