Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: At the moment is full on writing season. Being the start of a new year, many artists have approached me for their 2020 EP's/Albums. I am no stranger to working multiple briefs simultaneously.

Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

A: Jay Picasso, he is a fantastic producer. I have worked closely with him on a many a project. I admire his multi-musicianship (He literally can play every instrument under the sun) and his attention to detail that will leave you a awe of your own work.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: A satisfied client. I mean who doesn't?! It's not to be in a self-absorbed position like "Oh yeah I've done it again", but more so an appreciation that I listened and delivered and they're smiling. Definitely a high in my job.

Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A: Find someone who fits you best. That may not be someone with many "notches under their belt" (Professionally of course), but someone who is musically suited to the sound you envisage for yourself. Being a performer and artist is an extremely vulnerable profession and to find someone you can trust sharing that vulnerability with is what you are after.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: Tricky question, but I think Labrinth. I'd love to share a studio session with someone so creatively free as he is. To experiment with voice and sound and no creative restrictions. His sound is dope and the production is innovative. You just know that you'd be welcomed into that space as yourself and leave with a product you're happy with.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: I usually work with Popular music, typically R&B, soul and trap.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: Lyrical phrasing. I could catch you off guard with a sentence and surprise you with the ending. I like to play around with the uncommon. Imitating everyday conversations and how we simply communicate with each other. That is where I place my melodies, making it a conversation between artist and listener.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: Me. I know that may read as a bit "confident", but it had taken me a while to accept my writing style. And once I did, I realised the unique tone and character I brought to any given piece and embraced my individuality. For some it may take time to find their sound, for me it was not the search but the acceptance that made me understand how better to use it to serve myself and others. My writing is rhythmic and phrasing is interesting. I like to write in abstract pictures, but can also capture the story from a more direct approach. I speak from the heart and take a moment to really absorb the message before re-illustrating the lyrical content.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: I am extremely mood driven. When first receiving a track, I would listen to it all the way through and get a feel for where the melody may sit. Then, when listening for a second time, I will record a few freestyle ideas simply using my voice notes in order to capture where my voice and creativity is naturally leading me to. I will repeat this a number of times, until I find a melody that sticks and repeats and catches my attention and meets the overall atmosphere and criteria of the brief and song. It is then, I begin piecing the puzzle together and add lyrics to the melody line. Although this is typically my process, it can sometimes vary depending on whether I have started with a melody and met my fingers with a piano or started with chords inspired by my mood. It really does depend on the demand at the time.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I work alongside many aspiring artists who require assistance in finding their voice. In doing so, we draw inspiration from artists they admire and together write a topline that suits their style and overall artistry. In addition to this, I would say that I work with a lot of producers and equally rappers who need a voice and a catchy melody/topline to complete their track.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: Your vision is my number one concern.

A: That it's easy!
