Interview with Lake Effect Studio
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: well, my own music, I do the majority of songwriting, arranging, recording, mixing and mastering for my band. I'm my own toughest critic.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Big fan of Joe Barresi, Ken Andrews can do NO wrong, Jeff Martin and all The Tea Party stuff. Love everything from Black Metal to OLD country. I like DIY!!! Guys who make their own records top to bottom are my favorite. Shoegaze makes me happy and if you follow trends you're walking the wrong path.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A few rock projects and some great singer-songwroter stuff as well as always writing and recording my own band.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Because it's too good now, much easier and buget friendly. That being said if I could track to Tape and Mix in the Box that would be the bees' knees.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will do my absolute best to bring your song to a leval you could not reach alone.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Getting to hear great music FIRST!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Why doesn't it sound like such and such band.... The answer is becuase YOU are NOT Them.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That anyone can do it.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to my samples... Disregard genera and do you like what you hear?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My guitar, 5 years worth of strings, 5 years worth of Picks a solar powered tape recorder and 5 years worth of cassettes. Because it might all survive lol.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Been playing music 22 years and Recording Most of that time
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Ken Andrews because I love everything he touches
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When tracking, PHASE... Phase... phase...
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Punk, Metal, Singer-Songwriter
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Sifting through the shit to find what's under it all.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'm a guitarist who sings by trade, I love a great bass player and my favorite thing to mix/record is drummers.
Q: What's your typical work process?
