Interview with Nando Vieira
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm very proud of the Song 'O Tombo do Equilibrista" from a duo called Padede. They had total confidence in my work, so I could produce and record the song with total freedom. The song is very inspiring and was record with great brazilian musicians. Love it!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm starting to produce a brazilian singer and guitar player called Julia Smith. I'm also the musical director of Marco John, a brazilian singer I produced at my studio in 2015 and it's on the top of the charts in São Paulo with the song "Cores", I also play bass in his band. Lots of good things happening.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: George Nassen absolutely!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Does not matter, the sound is in my head and ears!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'm going to listen very carefully to the songs and respect the conception and the true about them!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love music… I love to make a record born… To see the smile rising on the artist's face as the song grows trough the speakers.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you make me sound like "Band - X or Artist Y"? my answer: No, I can only make you sound as yourself, find the best of you and record it!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: In my country most people confuse the main purpose of the Musical Producer, people think about it as the Executive producer...
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Are you sure it's the right time to make this record?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Before looking for a producer to start a record, be sure you already have a direction to go, be sure the songs are mature enough to be recorded, pick some references and make sure you'll have some time to dedicate to this moment, music requires patience and love!!!!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann U 87, UAD apollo, MAC Pro, Neve 1073, Focal Monitors

A: I've been doing this for 20 years… playing, singing, composing and then started as an studio assistant, recording engineer and finally started producing in 2008.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: In love with music!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with Sting! just because I love his music!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always listen to the song. The song will guide you and help you to find the better way to arrange, record and mix it!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop music… from Slayer to Roberto Carlos.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Finding the right tones for the record.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My main goal is to find the 'hook' of the song and then I try to build around it… I work hard to make the best of the song shine, respecting the felling and the artist conception. The True sounds different… that's What I keep in mind when I produce an artist.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: As a producer I begin selecting songs and creating a conception for the record based on the artist profile, I like to talk a lot with the artist and research about references, tones and so the 'real' work begins with the pre production
