Interview with Kevin Ramseyer

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm focusing on my own productions right now. Look for 'Life Haxx' to find me on Spotify!

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Sakari is a talented vocalist I've had the pleasure to work with on one of my productions.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: Quality. Badass sound. Easy-going, friction-free communication (in French, English, German or Spanish).

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Electronic, Hip-Hop, Reggae and all their subgenres. I'm at ease whether it's all-electronic, all-organic, or a mix of both.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I studied Audio Engineering in the UK and got my degree back in 2003. I've been involved in many independent projects, sometimes for free, but I've been mostly working on my own productions. Currently I'm working on the creation of my own structure, hopefully I can open and run my own professional studio soon. I am currently preparing a few releases. I've been involved with music creation and production since 2003, during my studies.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: Kendrick Lamar. He seems to be a real genius.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: My musicality. I listen to A LOT of music and this inspires me when I mix. I also have a meticulous attention to detail. At the same time, what counts is the overall sound of the final mix. Vocals have to stand out, the beat has to be strong, if the song calls for it of course.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: I'll give a first listen of the song as a whole, all faders up, no processing. That gives me an idea of where the artist(s) want(s) the song to go. Then I'd try to detect any problems, noises, resonating frequencies that are in the way and of course try to fix them. After that, it's all about making every element sound the best, keeping in mind the overall balance of the mix. I'll try to get the most balanced, airy and energetic mix I can get so that the mastering is a piece of cake.
