Endorse Da FingazThe services provided by Marcus and Top Notch Productionz is...top notch. Thanks to the music production additions they added to a project I was working on, the end result was better than I could have imagined. He is an amazing producer and can play with the best of them! I recommend Marcus and Top Notch Productionz to anyone who is seeking music production and audio mixing services.
I LOVE the work Top Notch does. Rarely heard or saw such a versatile pianist with such a great taste and modern approach. After seeing so many piano players overplay on my songs and ruining the vibe I was going for, I was incredibly happy to find that with Top Notch, there is one who actually gives me just what my music needs, and certainly much more than my money's worth! Always a pleasure to work with him.
Top Notch Productionz is great to work with. Highly talented and truly gets a feel for where a artist is working to take their music. I highly recommend!

Interview with Da Fingaz
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I was a composer for a National Geographic project that highlighted women explorers, educators, researchers, and scientists. This was a very impactful video and the whole process for creating music for it was incredible!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Always making music...
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Mickey Shiloh
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital - The convenience of digital, the cheaper price of digital products, the ease of use, the ability to quickly recall presets, and many more features is what makes digital more appealing than analog. The biggest factor is how much time is saved by going with digital components.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to keep the lines of communication open. This is the foundation for all successful relationships and businesses.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: - Flexibility - Convenience - Doing what I love
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Question: How fast can I have this project done? My answer: The time it takes depends on many factors, but I should be able to complete it within a reasonable timeframe. Question: Can you make me sound like [insert artist/producer]? My Answer: Possibly, but you want to sound like you.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: - Everything can be done fast; while that can be true, it depends on several factors. - Nothing professional can be done on an iPad/iPhone; this is very false.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - What problem or problems do you believe we will face working on this project? - What are you trying to accomplish with this song/project? - Do you have any reference tracks/songs that could help guide this project/song?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Keep the lines of communication open.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Piano (Fazioli or Bosendorfer), Mac (with a bunch of extra drives and storage space), Neumann U87 AI microphone, Drumset (probably Pearl, Ludwig, or Yamaha), iPad (with plenty of power/charging options)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I was a music major at James Madison University. Got a Master's in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University. I've been playing piano for nearly 30 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Fun, energetic, outgoing, approachable, engaging
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Pharrell; I like how he has transitioned and revamped his whole career. He is like a chameleon; working with hip hop/rap, pop, rock acts in addition to his work with some of the best music composers in Hollywood
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Yes: Sometimes to enhance a certain sound or frequency, it is best to lower that frequency/sound from all of the other elements in the song instead of raising that certain sound/frequency.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: - Hip Hop/Rap - R&B - Dancehall - Pop - Christian/Gospel
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: - Musician - keys, synths, organ - Mixing
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As a keyboard/synth player with extensive experience, I can bring the live keys element/vibe to a song. Also, with a strong background in music theory, I can apply traditional theory concepts to songs.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: - When I receive music to mix, I usually work on the drums/percussion elements first. Once I get a decent mix with those elements I add in the bass. I then add in keys/synths, guitars, and other sounds. I add the vocals last and mix the entire track accordingly. - For audio tuning, I find the key of the song (I can usually figure it out by ear) and match the settings in the tuning plugin to make sure the audio is in the key of the song. - For remixing, I usually bring in the vocal elements and FX and replace all of the music with music I create.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: - Logic-based setup running on a Mac laptop with Yamaha HS50M monitors. - Yamaha keyboard - iPad loaded with AUV3 and IAA synth and FX apps, - IK Multimedia iRig Keys IO 25 keyboard - IK Multimedia iLoud Monitors
