BobKat Music is great! He took a song I needed mixed, did a great job on the mix, and suggested--and executed!--some really great production improvements. He's been great at communicating the "why" of some of his suggestions, and patient and understanding with my feedback. I've already started working with him on more songs. Give BobKat a shot with your tunes!

Interview with BobKat Music

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both! Can't we all get along ?

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: Rock, Folk, R&B... but I am into everything. I like many different genres; Hip Hop, classic country and bluegrass, Jazz...

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: That something extra that will make it stand out in a crowd of other mixes. An identity.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I like to work fast and make a demo with feel to it. I then like to put it on my phone and carry it around with me for the day. After a few hours I will have a list of notes and be very inspired to dig into the real track.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I've got a hybrid mix of analog and digital. I like to track as much as I can to my Otari MX-5050 1/2" 8 track and then move onto the computer for dubs and editing before finally breaking it out on my console for the final mix. I can live in the tape world with just 8 tracks or I am happy to live in just the computer world.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Bill Frisell, Jonathan Wilson, Blake Mills, Tchad Blake, Gillian Welch, D'Angelo, Curtis Mayfield, Clarence White.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: Tracking, Guitar work and mixing.
