Interview with Leroy Moreno
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My collab with Paul van Dyk will always be a proud moment in my life. Paul was one of the artists who ignited my love for electronic music and who really translates genuine emotion into powerful sound.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I have just wrapped up some collaborations with a female vocalist who I have been wanting to work with for a couple of years now as well as a stunning trance producer! More details to follow soon!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I have worked with Austin Leeds and I highly recommend his mastering services! Although I provide stellar mastering for all my clients, there are times when you might want to get a 2nd version with another engineer. Austin has delivered such solid masters and I would definitely get in contact with him for work you wont be disappointed with.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about what I do is that this talent can be achieved overnight. True producers, mixing & mastering engineers have trained their ears for longer than we usually think. It's an art form that must be appreciated from all angles.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I'd love to hear track references they are inspired by or would like to sound similar to.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I feel that potential clients should take their track to the highest level they can. If you need any further assistance I'm definitely here to help!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Well, a laptop would be number 1, but battery power is gonna be limited. How about a guitar and field recorder?! I'm down with that!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I always knew I was going to be involved in music ever since I got into electronic music during my high school years. At first I had experimented with Fruity Loops, but then got a hold of Ableton Live and I knew I was gonna be making music for life. I've been making music for 10+ years and have only scratched the surface.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is genuine emotion. I want my music to hit your emotional center.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with John Mayer. That guy just knows what a great song is.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If the track still sounds good the next day then you're on to something!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I'm usually working on an emotive trance melody, but if not, then I'm sound designing a whole lot of bass sounds.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is the ability to create unique, massive anthems.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring 10+ years of genuine love for music production, mixing, and mastering!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process involves listening to each track with as much undivided attention as possible. There are certain frequencies I like to tune into and I love to accentuate. I feel that my production carries a unique vibe, which is an extension of all my inspirations and personal background.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in the box. I've been using Ableton Live for 10+ years now and I it's incredible what kinds of results you can get. I also bring in live instrumentation at times such as guitar, bass and drums!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Other musicians that inspire me are The Prodigy, LTJ Bukem, and Necrophagist! My music tastes are all over the place and I feel that has helped me expand my production capabilities into so many other areas.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and mastering as well as production in various styles. I can produce a wide range of genres that are unique, yet ready for clubs and festival arenas!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Each is necessary depending on the end goal. They actually feed off each other and it is not an "or" question, rather a "when" question.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I PROMISE that I will listen, process and deliver your musical needs until you are 110% satisfied with the end result.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I like that I get to do what I love most every single day while helping other artists fulfill their musical goals.

A: Customers commonly ask what my turnaround time is and it is usually 2-7 days depending on the complexity of the project.
